I used to have one of those. Lovely bike, way ahead of it's time.

Shame they're still relatively expensive for a nice one.

I managed to get my tankbag, but some f'cker must have nicked the waterproof
    cover.
Wasn't in there unless I've missed a secret pocket.

Incidentally, where might one get a UK road atlas that may fit such a map
    compartment?

It is there, it is physically attatched in a pocket at the rear in the base
which has a little velcro strip to keep it closed.

It does not come unattached so it must be there!

You can always moan to E-Bay as well as moaning on here. Dunno if they'd
actually do anything about it though.

The waterproof Tuffmap is 12 miles to the inch. Good for
route-busting and can be read on the move (within reason). Only shows
A roads and bigger B roads though,

I also carry the AZ Handy Road Atlas as well which is 5 miles to the
inch but has flimsy paper and is hard to read even when stopped, but
    shows all the minor roads.

1:25000 OS extracts printed from www.streemap.co.uk or
www.multimap.com are good for when you get real close to where you
    want to be.
