Most lids have just single density polystyrene foam in the liner, The
Arai ones I've seen{1] have had 3 or 4 different types and densities
bonded together. They really are very well made for the money.

[1] I had a customers fairly new but accident damaged[2] RX7RR4 cut into
two parts as a demo for my shop counter, just to show what you're paying
for when you buy an Arai.
[2] He'd totally wiped out one side when his head hit a lamp-post, he
walked away uninjured. Needless to say, he wasn't at all bothered about
spending another 500 quid on a replacement RX7.

Be warned, even an Arai RX7 couldn't save Joey Dunlop.
