  1. The Royal Society is having its summer science exhibition next week:
    http://www.summerscience.org.uk/

Swindon Town Football Club^W^W^W^WScience and Technology Facilities
Council will have a stand promoting the LHC experiments at CERN.

I'm rostered to be on hand next Thursday, if anyone's in the vicinity.

  3. Cheers, Neal. Hope you're continuing to mend well. My GWS card
that I sent the day you were discharged eventually made it back to me...

Important scientific question here: do large hadrons make a bigger
    bang when they collide?

  7. Short answer: Yes.

    Long answer: Maybe.

No, large hadrons make small hadrons when they collide, like people.

[ Insert diagram here of hadrons getting it on ]
Well, you, obviously, otherwise you wouldn't be about to make them.

  9. It's traditional to mis-spell the word in those scenarios...
Ye-es, but I really fell into this position rather than lusting
for it all my life. My PhD was concerned with 25 meV electrons; the
LHC protons have 560,000,000,000,000 times more energy...
