The latest newsletter from the LRF has arrived. [0] If anyone wants to read
it, let me know and I'll post it.

[0] This is the charity that the Mat Tab Memorial Fund went to, if anyone
    was non-plussed.

  2. Ah, they'll be the people who keep badgering me for more donations after
I lobbed a couple of pence into the fund.....

Don't *think* so, as the donation appeared to them to come from me. I
told them that it was a collection, and that it was in memory of Mat Tab.
But I didn't pass on any information about donors.

So, if the LRF are badgering you, they must have got your name and address
    from somewhere else.

  4. I did some work for them last. That's proper science work and
not fixing bike work in case you were curious.

Friend of mine, made a one off[1] donation to one of the cancer
charities. He eventually came to the opinion that they spent most of
    it badgering him for more.

[1] Explained to them at the time

The Sally Army have started this shite too. In the past couple of months
they must have spent my last donation on mailshots back to me.

There was a piece about this on R4 last week. A guy from a charity was
saying how cost-efficient their campaigns are. Also, they rubbished the
myth that when one gives to charity a huge proportion is lost in
"administration" without actually getting to the needy.

speaking of generous bastards...my GF's brother runs a SME in the
city. A few years ago, they issued a cheque to an american company for
payment for something or other. Anyway, it's recently passed the time
scale for un-cashed cheques being valid, so theoretically, quids-in
    for his company.

Except, being a generous chap, he agreed with his business partners
that rather than just plow this money back into the business, they'd
write a cheque for the same amount to a well-known UK charity.

    All well and good.

The cheque was for >170K ukp.

I'm certainly seeing a lot of postage anf 3 colour printing. Perhaps they
    get it free though?

it's just a pity he's not as generous towards his near relatives,
    that's all I can say.

A random act of senseless generosity.

It wasn't entirely random; he chose a charity researching a cure for
the illness that ultimately resulted in his father's death.

They sent him a nice thank-you letter, so every penny well spent.
