Your neighbour knew my Uncle Walt? Fucking world's getting smaller by the
    day.

Because people rarely have the right money out & ready. Usually they
don't know what the total will be, so when they find out, the rummaging
for notes & coins begins, then the assistant counts said notes & coins,
sticks them in the right section in the drawer, counts out the change &
hands it over. That takes longer than sticking a card in the slot,
punching the number in, then taking the card out.

Even a shop with a slow connection is quicker with a card than someone
rumamging in a handbag for their purse, finding the right pocket in the
purse, counting the change out etc. It just seems slower with a card
because nobody's actually doing anything whilst waiting for the call to
    go through.

Until pictures of his weapon are publicised, we'll never know for sure and I
for one ain't interested in seeing it.

"Witnesses at the Chinese-run discount supermarket in the Valdes
shopping centre, a 10-minute walk from the seafront, said he had
severed her head with a long, thin, very sharp blade, the traditional
knife used for carving Spanish ham. "

Nah. If the pricks haven't got their money out, they won't have their cards
out either, so they'll be rummaging for them and then trying to remember
their fucking PIN, before finding their phone, looking through their "notes"
and finding the PIN and then entering it after first shoving the card in the
reader the wrong way. It's a fucking faff waiting for pricks like that.
And a card is SO much easier to find than the main compartment of a purse
    that holds cash. Mmm.

It just seems slower with a card
It is slower than cash if both are used efficiently.

So when I drive up to the toll booths on the M6 toll road and stick my
card in the slot then drive away it's slower than paying with cash? I've
tried throwing the correct money in the bin and it takes longer than
using the card and the way that I know this is because my satnav tells
me how long I've been stationary.

    Sorry to burst your bubble.

You should also try using a contactless enabled card at some point and
see whether using cash is quicker than the card.

    Pop goes the bubble again.

Quite. I've got one of those and the blade is so thin (width wise) that
it bends when the slightest bit of force is applied. Mind you, Jamon is
a bit tougher than neck, I suppose.

    Ok, have it your way.
My "bubble" is well and truly intact, thank you very much.
Moving the goalposts now? Ah wll.
How so? Have contactless cards been under discussion in this particular
bubble? I see it as a completely different (and so far intact) bubble and I
wouldn't argue that a contactless card was slower than cash, but until it's
a widely accepted as cash, I'll keep using both and keep all my bubbles in
    good condition.

    Thanks, I'll do that.
How is pointing out that a lot of cards are contactless moving the goal
posts? They're credit/debit cards and are pretty well standard issue
    these days.
Contactless cards = credit/debit cards and I'm sure that's what the
discussion was about. They've not been out long enough to be universal
but I think you'll find that most replacement cards are now contactless.
Whether you use them in that way or not is another matter...

  16. Same results here with kangaroos and sheep. Taking a head off is not a 5
second job and generally you need a butchers saw or a decent axe to make
    it easier.

  17. The Gurkhas take cow heads off with their ceremonial Kukri. Not an easy
job. It is considered a disgrace if they don't manage it in a single blow.

That's a little old hole in the wall place, in Brest.

There's another, similar, one in Bristol.

Your examples are flawed. What takes half the time normally is having to
wait for the receipt to print out.

There is no way you'd sever a cow's head with a single blow of
    *anything* that wasn't powered.
