rego sticker is in a round cylinder under my number plate
In aus.motorcycles on Mon, 22 Nov 2010 19:44:26 +1100 some say yes, some say no. It is my understanding that the NSW police have done people for it, mostly as a "we don't like you sunshine" thing. Zebee
Qld rules state to the effect must be visible from side with specified mounting points , rolled doesn't cut it On the cars I place the sticker on a rear side passenger windows for best obscuring
In aus.motorcycles on Mon, 22 Nov 2010 21:06:54 +1100 I think it's one of those things they get you for if they want to send a message. I use one on the Noggie, if I get talked to about it I will replace it, otherwise it can stay there. Zebee - trading shamelessly on the fact that middleaged women on touring bikes dont tend to get hassled.
But if it's legal, the cops doing so should get their butts kicked. If not legal, it should be clearly indicated in the relevant regs/ legislation. Tony F who understands that the cops can check your rego plate as they follow you anyway, so why does anyone need a sticker?

I got booked by having an expired sticker on the screen. I had the current sticker displayed, but by the letter of the law, he booked me. Apparently, he quoted to me that you are not allowed to have multiple registration stickers.
In WA rego stickers have been abandoned for cars and motorcycles. None have been issued since 1/1/10. So no, no-one needs a sticker here. Theo
In aus.motorcycles on Mon, 22 Nov 2010 14:14:47 -0800 (PST) It's the interpretation. The legislation doesn't say 'can't be a tube" it talks about "clearly visible"/ So you get to work out what that is in court. Have fun. Zebee
Many years ago (1973) I got stopped by two coppers who couldn't figure out what to charge me with. Eventually one of them said, your rego holder is illegal. It was attached to the bottom of the front forks on the left side. My response was that the bike was less than a year old and it was the dealer that placed it there, not me. I had just assumed that the dealer would not put it in an illegal place, and that my understanding was that it was required to be 'On the left side of the cycle in a clearly visible place'. He said the regulations actually stated that it was required to be attached to the handlebars as near as possible to the steering head. I told him that I had never seen one attached to a bike at that point and would he show me on his bike so I could then place it in the correct location. He declined to show me and told me to get on my way. His attitude irked me so next day I discussed this encounter with an ex-police officer named John Neep, a very nice bloke who was the person in charge of the National Safety Council in WA, which was initially set up to hold novice and advanced riding courses (since disbanded and turned into a car park for ECU). John was amazed that he was not aware of this regulation and promised to follow it up. He must have made the point strongly because within three months the regulation was changed to 'a clearly visible position on the left side of the motorcycle', thus making all bikes legal again. It was changed again on Jan 1 this year and no rego sticker is now required nor issued. Theo
thats the funny thing, even if you have a rego sticker they will still do a check so why do we even need a sticker these days ?
in other words he was been an absolute prick anyway these days you only need a phone to check your details .... some application would let them access details straight away
mate of mine ran aorund for more years than I care to remember with his trailer rego label on his car. booked many times for speeding and other shit, never got done for no rego. Saved him thousands....
In aus.motorcycles on Tue, 23 Nov 2010 17:56:59 +1100 You should probably check the legislation first. And you'd best have a very good line in reasonable intelligent questions because magistrates tend to believe coppers... Zebee
We dont, but where else would we get the fine money from fail to display, or displaying expired sticker.
They are bringing in compulsory stickers for vehicles older than 25 years registered as Classic, Veteran or Vintage, on 5th February 2011 in Victoria Motorcycles and Cars
