The lad has just received a parking fine on his motorbike. He was at
college, parked on the pavement alongside some railings, not causing an
obstruction. On the road are double yellows.

    No other restrictions.

Can anyone tell me whether the bike should have been ticketted ?

  2. The local council named on the top of the parking ticket might be a good
    place to start.

  8. On the pavement? That's for pedestrians, isn't it? I think it might be
illegal to park a motor vehicle on the pavement.

So if you suspended it from the railings using the chain and the wheels
weren't touching, you'd get away with it? Could be handy for scooter riders!

Look, I didn't say it was necessarily sensible or enforceable
legislation. Given a dedicated team of wardens [1] you might have a very
long wait before you could ride it away again.

[1] An oxymoron - or knowing some of them round our way, not.

The ticket was not necessarily council issued. Many FE/HE institutions have
their own security[1] who manage traffic. They are quite tough on
transgressions too: not surprising considering the demographic.

Bear in mind that if this debt is to the college, or one if its sub-
contractors, then failure to cough up is a breach of regulations. This
could affect progression to the next year or ultimately graduation.

Just how do you get both wheels off the ground and keep them off the
ground when the bike is on its centre stand?

Ah, thank you, Mr.Lozzo[1]. One does it with the aid of a block of wood
between the the front pavement and rubber interface. I never once had to
pay a ticket using this method. I never received one either but it
    could've been a fluke, granted.

[1] You see, Pip's messages are alas, absent from my newsreader still :(

    Whinging Courier says...
It's a fucking sight easier to stick a helmet bag over the number plate
and a bit of insulting tape over the tax disc. They're not allowed to
remove either to check the plate, but your method could be deemed as
still being in contact with the pavement.

You can do it with a Wing if you put enough[1] in the topbox and
    panniers.

    [1] i.e. far too much.
