LED stop tail "bulbs".... HOW MUCH?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Doesnotcompute, May 9, 2004.

  1. The last (of two) brake light seemed to fail en route to Chepy, so it's
time for me to get a tuit and replace the tal light unit on the bandit.

This time I want to use LED's, to stop the bulbs melting the lenses
again. Just looking at those "cluster of LED's fitted to a normal bulb
    connector" type things:

...which look very handy and suitable for the purpose, assuming they're
not too big to fit in the available space, but JHC, how much? £15+ each!

Cheapest I've found so far is £8.99 each, at M and P,

however these have less LED's which considering the viewing angle of the
tail lights on tha bandit, is not a good thing. Brighter the better.

Anyone know of somewhere that sells these at reasonable prices?

£5.88 for the red stop tail lamp.

  3. ISTR that for a motorcycle you really ought to have one with white side LEDs
to illuminate the numberplate - I recall seeing them on an American
supplier's web site a couple of years ago. Yes, yes, I know you don't really
WANT to illuminate your numberplate, but I thought it worth mentioning.

  5. Thanks for the thought, but it'd take one hell of a tail light setup to
illumiate my numberplate - given the tail lights are several inches more
to the rear and above the plate :)

    Doesnotcompute says...
Hein Gericke sell them as transmitter replacements for those fucking
awful LED strips that stick to the back of helmets. I think they're
    about 6 quid each.

Does anyone know if I can fit one of these LED's in that skinny
letterbox side lamp on my RT?

I doubt it. IIRC the side lamp on the RT is much smaller and not the
    same type fitment.

  13. Er, possibly yes. They don't mention numberplates, but I guess they would be
    right.

I was considering going down this route myself, as miserable ol' BMW only
fit a single tail and stop bulb on their bikes, and if a filament goes them
you have nothing - as I found out one dark night. I got a bit spoiled with
me ol' VFR that had two stop/tail lamps and two headlamps.
