    Hi,

I want to get something like these to go in my new house.

    http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/category/category.jsp?CATID=6640003

How are they actually fitted to the wall? Is it a job that anyone can do?
The electric cable is already fitted to the wall.

    Help?

You'll need a chimney to get rid of all the burnt electrical particles.

err, all but one of those are /gas/ fires.
MiL has one - it's just screwed to the wall, I think. The electric one
on that page looks to be free standing.

Oh bugger, bad linkage, sorry. But you get the idea, I want a leccy one, so
i assuem it just screws to the wall, also guessing that you have to cut the
    skirting to suit?

yup - and that's all there is too it. I'm not that fond of them
myself, as they're neither pretty or efficient.

Well, when I say that I want one. What I mean is that the missus has
    demanded one.

We have a real fire here, and she wants to have the illusion of one at the
new place. as its gas central heated I guess that heat part of the fire will
    rarely get used.

That's just a free standing fire, doesn't need screws. Will look a bit odd
just plonked on the carpet against the wall, really should sit on a hearth.
Have a look in the MEA showrooms in Douglas, they have a good selection.

I will be getting one with a hearth and plinth and all in, I just used that
site for an example of picttures.

I cannot abide the MEA, I refuse to buy anyhting off them if I can help it.

I have heard good things about Blacks though.

Don't think Blacks do electric ones. They do the real thing. Got a wood
burning stove off them about 7 years ago £600.00 plus about the same again
    for a SS flue liner.

    Specifically, something like this:

Couple of screws will fit that in place. You may have to trim your skirting,
or there maybe cut outs on the back of the surround to accommodate the
    skirting.
