What do you want it for? Commuting in the inner city? A fair bit of
freeway? Gravel roads? Long trips? Carrying pillions when
    permitted? Carrying the shopping home?

Are you tall or short? Slight or heavy?

What kind of look/feel tickles your fancy? Race look, cruiser look,
offroad/motard look, none of the above it's just transport?

    Thank you Zebee.

Looking for a scooter to commute to shops mainly. Only short distance trips
until I get licence 4 stroke is preffered. I am average build. Looking at
the Sachs Amici as I like the retro look

    Cheers

Yes I do. According to Vic Roads all motorcycles with engine capacities of
0 - 260cc are approved under LAMS with the exception of the following
    models:

    MAKE MODEL cc
    APRILIA RS250 250
    HONDA NSR250 250
    KAWASAKI KR1 250
    KR1S 250
    SUZUKI RGV250 250
    YAMAHA TZR250 250

    Are you suggesting I get a 250CC

    Thank you

    Liking your bike is important!

A 125cc scooter is OK for shortish distances and city speeds, meaning
if you are likely to need to do 80-100 or up any steep hills you might
    find it lacking.

(Based on the ones I've ridden....)

YOu should also decide if it makes financial sense to buy a bike that
you will sell soon. If you are going to take longer trips once you
are off your Ls then you may well find the 125 doesn't have the go and
so will have to be sold. If you bought it new then you'll take a fair
hit when selling. If this doesn't matter to you then go for it!

If it does, then think a bit more about the riding you might do. If
you think you'll still be doing most of your riding in flat or gentle
slope areas at 60-70kmh then get the 125 and enjoy it! It won't be
happy on freeways but you can avoid those mostly and as long as you
aren't going to be heading up to the Dandenongs on a regular basis you
    will be fine.

Alternatively start hunting 2nd hand bikes. Talk to scooter shops
that sell them, and ask what 2nd hand ones fit your requirements for
looks and riding type. You might find a 2nd hand 200 Vespa or
Piaggio fits the bill and is affordable.

For a useful web site on scoots available in Australia try -

    http://www.scootersales.com.au/

Suggest buy a newish second hand one - simple and useful things for
commuting shopping and cruising the urban landscape without acquiring
    annoying points on licence.

Make sure it has a hook to hang the groceries off and a flatish floor (fits
a slab of beer or a half case of wine).

Don't think about the supposed half motorcycle half scooter - they are
different species and their offspring are useless neuters. Its one or the
other, and they each have their separate places.

    eg - http://www.scootersales.com.au/Catalogue/mojoscooters/v5250/281.aspx

Also avoid really cheap Chinese imports - the large "ABS" sticker on the
forks actually just stands for Another Bloody Sticker. Taiwanese are ok.

Had 3 - loved them all.

"No Reserve" but the opening bid is $4400? You're splitting hairs, Marty!

At $4400 it is well priced.

Of course it's Ebay... judging by past experiences there will be a
number of people with sniping programs and there's likely to be a rush
of bids at the last minute.

    exactly..

I am happy with $4400, anything above is a bonus

I have been watching KLEs on ebay for the last 9 months, none have
    sold over $4.7k

Because people *want* it to go.
    Vespas rarely suffer existentialist crises.
