Does anyone know what the maximum lean angle is on a given bike?
I'm just reading that that Hoggley's new bike can "lean to 40 degrees". I
have to admit I've never gotten the protractor out mid-corner to measure how
far over I was going but it'd be interesting to know how far away I am from
a GP rider (ie. not even remotely close)

If you constantly scrape your boot , your close to max

If you're scaping your elbow, it's either because you're running slicks or you're sliding down the road.

The Pilot Powers advertising says they'll do ~50deg in the dry and
    40deg in the wet

If you're in MotoGP you're close to Max.
Well that really depends on what parts HRC makes a-VALE-able to you, no?

Bearing in mind that that stuff is all published by their marketing
department, not their technical department, and isn't maximum lean angle going
to be a function of both the tyre on the bike and the actual bike the tyre is
on? ..so one bike with this tyre may be capable of 50° lean but another bike
    may not be.

No, I think they are talking about the tyre on its own.
