Le Bimble Francais....

Anyone else going from Portsmouth ? (It's a lot less hassle from here
- 50 minutes from driveway to slipway).

Im out on the 08.15 from Portsmouth - Ouistreham, and then back on the
17.00 from Le Havre - Portsmouth.

 

Not for C-en-C, no. However I am using Portsmouth later in the year. The
prices don't seem too bad. I'm doing an overnight from Portsmouth to Le
Havre on LDLines on the way out, which costs £87 inc a 2 berth cabin.

Return is from Cherbourg to Portsmouth on the Fastferry with Brittany
Ferries. Slightly less good value at £81.

The cost would've been cheaper if I had been prepared to wait around for
the LDLines afternoon ferry and ride the extra km to Le Havre. My last
Chateau accommodation is only 15km from Cherbourg and the crossing leaves
at midday so I can take my time over breakfast and sober up a bit.

Eurotunnel would be £85 return for the late August, early September time
I'm travelling, then add on a hotel plus the extra mileage costs from
Normandy let alone the convenience factor of missing out the M26, M25 &
eastern M4. I suppose there will be some utility value in having a meal
with my Havant resident son near the port prior to departure as well...
