Nowt dogy about it, company can pay for gear if bike is a company vehicle.
Mind ewe, trying to claim VAT on a lid may get him in trouble.

When you use it for personal use as well as business use? If it isn't
dodgy it fucking well ought to be.

Because it's not being used solely for business purposes then
consequently it's wrong that someone should fail to pay the due amount
of tax because they happen to be self employed. Or alternatively because
they avoid paying their tax this way others have to pay more.

Why? Is no VAT payable on lids? AIUI (and I do need o check this) as
long as it's proper E marked safety kit.

I have to agree. Since it is *unlikely* that it will be used for
pleasure *unless* I am using it for business, then I'm not worried.
OTOH if I do start using it for sole pleasure, then I'll declare it as
taxable income, VAT and all. OK?

So, when I had a company bike I should not have used it for personal use ?
The rule is in there, put there by the tax man, use the rule to get what
    is available.

    Cool. But I think you're a lying tax-dodging bas'td that's costing me
thousands in extra payments as a permie.

Take off the value of the 25+ days you get as paid holidays and work out
    who's better off.

No, you paid tax on the company bike.

I can't claim, for example, that my suits are a tax expense since I
could use the for non-work puposes.

Look, don't confuse my arguments with facts.

Anyhow, if I was contracting I'd only need to work for six months to
make the same money I make as a permie. Roughly anyway.

There is nothing I do out of work where I would consider wearing a
suit. Then again I don't wear suits to work either.
