    Hi all

Recently I have had a run if minor problems. After 'fixing' my indicator
switch I had to fix a leaking fuel tap. I hoped that would be all for a
while, but riding home from work in the dark I had a bloke yell "tail light"
    at me.

This is the second time this has occurred. The last time I was riding home
late at night, cut in front of a hot older falcon and had him chase me
zigzaging through the traffic (shitting myself all the way) eventually
cornered me at a red light and said " hey mate your tail light's out".

The bulb was blown. I put in a new one and found it works on park but when
switched to the headlight it goes out. Any ideas from the electrical gurus?

    Bad earth somewhere.

The standard thing to look for when electrickery does odd things.

Does the front parking light work?

does it go out when the headlight is on?

  5. The bulb was blown. I put in a new one and found it works on park but when
initial idea...yer light switch is broke...when you go from park
position to headlight, something goes astray...if your front park light
does it too this must be the reason
either fix the switch or wire park light circuit to headlamp circuit

best to put in relays for headlight anyway...will save switches and
    improve light output 10%

i dont really see a bad earth doing it, but worth a check if front and
rear are independant or the indicators glow a bit or something silly

    "fulliautomatix" wroteelectrical gurus?
    Bad earths do strange things.
Check all the earth connectors first. Tail light assemblies are often
anti-vibration mounted. Check the earth connection from the assembly
to the mudguard/frame. Do you have two tail-lights? If so problem is
likely earth connection to the tail-light bulb socket that is working.
If tail-light is earthed to mudguard check the mudguard connection to
the frame. Check the earth lead to the headlight as well. Steering
head bearings do not make good earth connections and will fugg your
bearings. Check frame lead from battery.

Other than that, your bike's fucked mate.
