I mostly spent the evening drinking wine & eating cheese, surrounded by
40+ 2-stroke classic/vintage race bikes in various states of
togetherness. Road racers, scramblers, grass-trackers - the works.

They belong to a guy who builds them for classic racing. And when I say
build, that's exactly what I mean. He makes virtually every part in his
workshop (a big shed in the garden), then assembles them in what used
to be the ground floor of his house. He makes the frames. He casts
lumps of metal then machines them to make the engines. He casts other
lumps & machines them to make the brake hubs. I think the only metal
bits he doesn't make are the wheel rims. Needless to say he does all
this on old style machinary - none of this modern CNC stuff.

Some of the toys on display included a gorgeous '1966' Dot scrambler
that he'd built from scratch, apart from the engine internals which are
CR250. It's for sale for 6k. Also an original factory race bike which
had been used by Barry Sheene - can't remember what make. A replica
something-else with a replica GT380 engine, again built from scratch.

He raced MX for 40 years, & has been building & tuning 2-strokes for
even longer (or 'learning how to tune 2-strokes' as he put it). A
    thoroughly interesting chap.

This time of year, there's a reasonable case to be made for expecting port
    and stilton.

Not for me. I hate port, and don't eat cheese with mould in it. Stilton
    makes me vom hugely.

White port, white stilton (which doesn't have Penicillium roqueforti added
    to it).
