Even my BSA Bantum riding great uncle thought lap rugs were dorky! [1]

[1] Didn't stop him using one when he used to have the larger BSA single
(before he got older and downsized).

Well no actually. I saw a bloke riding in Singapore a week
or so ago wearing a cardie, backwards!

It's all a bit of a soft comfy and safe place, really :)

I documented bikes in Singapore quite a bit by way of photographs.
Will dig 'em out and stick 'em online eventually. Choosing a
personal favourite is difficult though... could be...

    - The bloody great big late model BMW RS (? like what Clem's got,
but a new one, and not pink) being ridden in traffic along
Rochor Road by a teensy little Singaporean Chinese girl
(squidding). She never stopped, not even at traffic lights.
I dunno how she was gonna reach the ground when she did.

    - The little (at a guess) 125cc scooter with more rice on it
than I've ever seen on anything! Parked on one of those bridges
up behind the Fullerton hotel, It had multi-coloured anodised
aluminium highlights on the anodised aluminium go fast bits.
I don't think there was any metal component on it that wasn't
blue or yellow in colour. To top that off, it had fully sick
speakers mounted in the Givi top box pointing forward. The
only thing that was missing was a milo tin for the exhaust can.

    - The nondescript generic pushbike leaned up against a tree
in the square between Sim Lim Square and Bugis St, just an
ordinary pushie... with a bloody great Givi top box!

Didn't see any R1's actually. A few R6's, one Blackbird, one
big Gixxer with full rice. 400cc Hornets seem to be the 'big'
bike of choice though - they were everywhere. A little 125cc
two smoke Yamaha in a flavour that we don't get here seemed to
be the people's favourite though - can't remember the model
    number off-hand.

Actually, the reverse cardie/light jacket wearing in Singapore is mostly
about diesel exhaust and how to keep black spots off your shirt. Ask a
    local, I did.

Yea I was there last month and found the local method of
jacket/cardie wearing very strange initially but on reflection it
    makes sense, I spose.
If you ride with the cardie on normally but undone (to ensure you
dont overheat) it would flap annoyingly around when riding but
reversed its not so annoying .
I have never seen so many squids in my life but then again speeds
around Singapore tend to be very commuterish rather than freeway
    stuff.
There are more than a few R1's used for commuting to with squid
    strips about 50mm wide.

I'm having two holidays this year. Got back from Bali two weeks ago and am
heading for Singapore on Oct 1. In Singers for 8 days then 6 days on the
    Virgo.

The Virgo cruises at 24 kts. That's a real cruiser Hammo.

Aha my learned friend I never even thought of that , I just assumed.

It would protect the white shirt from bugs and splats etc.

I did see a couple of ST1100's regularly on the commute along
Orchard Road alongside the more usual 2 smokes of many
denominations. What I did like were the 400 ish Hornets , they
look like an OK mini mid size bike. Tis strange when you see a
big bike (1000 cc +) amongst all the tiddlers.
If 2 smokes where killed off by anti pollution laws then how come
there are so many still around in an eco sensitive place like
    Singapore.

Theo what you doing in Singapore??? It would be a dam site warmer
there than here in Vic ATM.
I still didnt get to try the Chilli Crab that seems to be the
local nosh, but I did eat out at the Hawkers food stands most nites.
Didnt drink much of the beer tho at at least $6 a glass bugger that.

Yah, Someyoungguy's brother in law. Distant cousin of
Sumcunt. No-one knows where Sumcunt is these days, but
I tell yah, he's in a whole lot of trouble for all the
shit he's caused over the years!

    - Sumcunt stole me tools

    - Sumcunt left shit all over the place

    - Sumcunt scratched me bike while it was parked

    - Sumcunt stole me telly

    ... the list goes on.

GB, no idea who 'Yah' is though

Heheh do you know what they raise those big fat crabs on ?
When you eat at the hawker stands get a take away bottle of tiger from
the 7-11 or similar. Heaps cheaper.

Oh, and get away from Orchard rd and the prices plummet.

    JL
(there's a good little food area near the cheap electronics strip which
I can't remember the name of was good)
