Lanesplitting law update

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Zebee Johnstone, May 3, 2006.

  1. From the MCC list:

    ------------
    MOTORCYCLE COUNCIL OF NSW

NTC have withdrawn proposed Rule 151A (anti-lane-splitting) from the
Road Rules Amendment package to be presented to ATC in June.

By removing the proposed rule 151A, the NTC ensures the rest of the
"package" of changes will have a high likelihood of being accepted by
ATC and subsequently incorporated into law.

The actions of informed riders responding to the Regulatory Impact
Statement has made quite an impression.

This was coupled with formal submissions from MCC of NSW, MRA Vic, the
Australian Motorcycle Council and motoring organisations we briefed
and invited to take an interest. So, it's a great round of thanks to
the additional credibility offered by the AAA, NRMA, RACV and VACC in
    supporting motorcycle riders.

The proposal was pretty silly, so it wasn't hard to gather allies,
but a matter of doing the proper legwork and process.

We understand that the number of responses received on this set of
proposed road rules changes caused very great surprise and is vastly
greater than any number of responses ever received by NTC to an RIS .
    ------------

So no under 8s as pillions, and no dogs on tanks well go ahead to
the ATC.. If these affect you, then get to your state Minister for
Transport and really give them what for.

(the various lobby groups tried hard on those, but they didn't get the
    massive response the lanesplitting did.)

I believe now that the NTC will re-think, it isn't clear if they'll
try again in a modified form or drop it altogether, stay tuned.

The fact that it's bike-riding only slightly mitigates the fact that you're
    a MAN with a CAT!!

Er, uhm, but, er... that Zebee bloke has met me cat! That
Boky bloke met me cat too! Therefore he's a blokey cat,
    so there!

Are you insinuating that I'm a sports bike riding cat owning
poof what can't keep up with GS riders in the mud?

GB, 'cos you'd be right if you were!

  8. Although it has been removed from the June package it seems it has been
referred back to the ARRMG who came up with the damned thing in the
first place. Consequently we shall probably see it re-introduced through
a backdoor route when they have completed enough "research" to back up
their argument and "prove" they were right in the first place.
