I've heard rumours that the idea of the ban on lane splitting /
    filtering has been thrown out.

Apparently it's going around the industry, and has been printed in
Cycle News. I can't find anything on any of the Motorcycling websites.

    Can anyone shed some light?

Instead they have legalised cars to open their doors when they see a bike
    approaching.

    Penalty Units : 0 points

Bonus Points being considered for collecting multiple bikes in one "hit"

I'd post up that "welcome to last month" image that Smee
keeps going on about, but I've no mind to pander to his
    demands right now.

Sorry guys. I googled around the 'net, but not this group.

I DID do some research before I asked. I would have thought that at
least one of MRAA, Motorcycling Australia, Motorcycling Victoria,
Vicroads, VACC and RACV websites would have had something on it.

    Please forgive me.

can't speak for them, but www.mccofnsw.org.au (who I can't speak for
either really) has information on this.

However... a little bird has told me that it's not a stop, it's
merely a pause. That most people responsible for traffic laws are
convinced that bikes are just funny looking cars and so should be
treated exactly the same and that bikers are obviously too stupid to
know lanesplitting is Wrong or else habitual lawbreakers.

In other words, get ready for this to get up again.

Thanks Zebee. I don't mind if they treat us all the same. I don't have
    a problem with cars lanesplitting...

  9. I do.

You've obviously never had a car try to lanesplit on you then?

What really gets up my nose is that they _don't_ want to treat bikes
just like cars. They want the police to have three potential offences
to charge a motorcyclist with when they lanesplit but to have two
potential offences to charge the driver of a car with when they do
precisely the same thing. You'd think that cars were better suited to
    it or something.

That's exactly right, the letter they sent me said it had been sent back to
the ARRMG to 'address the issues'and resubmit the proposal. They are the
people who formulated it in the first place, so I doubt they will admit we
know more about it than they do. We will need to keep an eye out for a
slightly reworded version at their next try.

Blimey Zeb, you don't need a little bird to see THAT coming a mile away,
it stood out like dogs balls from the minute it got overturned. You only
had to look at the way it was done.

Rego is just a way for them to ping you for speeding. It just about
covers its costs. It's nothing to do with paying for anything else.

Thinking it makes a difference as to what bicycles should be able to
    do is silly.

I guess I have. I was trying to be funny... but I guess I failed.
    Thanks for that Peter.

  18. that's ok. The written word didn't convey the expression on my face (or
the tone of voice) as I 'said' it.

Does that make us both failed comedians?
