  6. Not Hodgsons the Butchers by any chance?

My dad's parents used to live just to the rear of their shop in Shorley
Lane in Keswick. I really must go back and see Keswick again - haven't
    been for years and years.

I actually had a fun week camping in Dungeon Ghyl, some dozen or so years
    ago.

It was the best weather I've ever seen in the Lakes, only raining twice in
the whole week[1] with nice weather between the two downpours.

It was a very funny week; a load of unemployed, skint 20 year olds going
camping, especially after 2 of our number had spent all of their money
getting pissed the night before, but came along anyway.

[1] When we were putting the tents up and when we were taking the tents
    down, naturally.

You can have a little fun on the A592 & A593, too.

Hodge Close - formerly a slate quarry. It is a landscape like the moon
with a bloody great hole in it with deep dangerous water. Climbers
practice abseiling on the cliff walls and you can take a walk round and
down to the waters edge. It is off to the right up a narrow winding lane
from the main road from Ambleside to Coniston the A593.

Ambleside is a good central base. Weather can be good on one side of a
hill and foul on the other. Hospitality is excellent.

    If on bike

A6 from Kendal towards Penrith. Give it a miss after Shap, turn round and
go back again - or take a left after Shap, follow the signs for Haweswater
and park - go and see the golden eagles. Have a pint on the terrace of the
    hotel there. Peaceful.
Then go back to Kendal on the A6.
    Kirkstone Pass - from Ambleside
Slate quarry at top of Honister pass and have a walk up Dale head - cos
you're half way up it already at the top of Honister. The view is stunning.

    Hard Knot pass :)

[1] Well - thats one spelling anyway. Given that the numbering system
died out 400+ years ago except for some yokels counting sheep it's as
    good a guess as any..

You what? I was commenting on your (repeated) statement about the 'fcuking

I was suggesting that you therefore never leave your town, otherwise you'd
    be some sort of hypocrite.

  19. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Derek Burwood"
Water. Lots of it. And sheep.
