Etc? Take an umbrella. Better yet, take one each, it keeps the
    peace.

I have some floor space with no need of umbrella to those that have no
fear of 3 year olds, mad dogs, and meowing cats.......

  4. Paul - xxx (mobile) presented the following explanation :
Perhaps a little too much fun for one day?

Last time I did the run on a bike was a long time ago and in the dark,
I'd forgotten just how awkward and tricky some of those bends can be -
Not for the faint hearted on a bike with some less than understanding
car drivers about - some just do not seem to realise that a bike falls
    over if you stop.

I've just got back from a run down that road, this afternoon. On the
way up, I was caught out by a 1 in 3 RH hairpin when a cage suddenly
came round the corner and found he couldn't do it in one. He stopped
and I thought he was going to let me through, but no he kept coming
forcing me to the extreme edge - with a rather serious drop down by my
left with nothing but empty space under my left foot.

On the way down a small flock of sheep had decided a 1 in 3 down hill
section with yet another LH hairpin was a good place to lie down and
catch some sun. Would they move, would they buggery and I didn't have
enough room left in which to turn it with feet on the pegs. It was that
steep I couldn't get my left foot too the ground - so I had to use my
right foot on the ground, put it on full lock and try to control the
decent on the front brake whilst a crowd watched from 100yds further
down who's attention had been caught by my sounding the horn to try to
shift the sheep. Luckily a sensible driver down at the bottom saw my
predicament and held up the cars until I had extricated myself.

I'm not trying that again without some stabilisers fitted, or at least
a bike more suited to those tight bends.
