If you want shiny, use "normal" paint.

If you want bomb proof, Hammerite it is.

AIUI Hammerite contains silicone, and if you try to overcoat it, the finish
you are applying will "fisheye" [1].

I've never been all that impressd with Hammerrite. It takes forever to
dry properly, never goes on consistently and flakes off in big chunks
far too easily when chipped. Chassis Black paint is where it's at.

  8. What he said. SOP for me is *never* to buy a bike that's been
Hammerited. You will never, ever remove the bastard stuff.

And it looks untutterably gash. OK for park railings: not for vehicles.

Smoothrite, now, is a different kettle of fish.

My mistake. It is Smoothrite I was thinking of. They just don't call it
that on the tin anymore. It's Hammerite (smooth).
