Labor knows what's best for you.

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Howard Cooper, Sep 18, 2003.

  1. There's no getting away from the fact that Labor governments have
historically been hellbent on implementing what some people call ,not
    always unfairly, a "Nanny state".

ie. "We know what's best for you", "Motorcycling is dangerous, come over
here and have a look at this nice comfortable, warm and safe car, now
    isn't that better?".

Coalition governments historically have been about choice hence they've
never had it in for motorcyclists like this current state government
    does.

ps. Your Westgate Bridge crack is not appreciated. Suicide is serious, I
hope you are never touched by it as my family was earlier this year (on
    that very bridge).

  2. Do they have a name for what's wrong with you? Somehow, "stupid" just
doesn't seem to stretch far enough to cover it all...

  4. Who introduced most of Australia's speed cameras? The ones in NSW and the
ACT certainly came in under Liberal Governments, can other people fill in
    the blanks for other states?

I think you will find that the actual legislation took place under labor
let me know if you do , that's the normal way it works.

  7. I'll look into it. But in NSW, it was definitely done under Greiner,
although fixed cameras came in under Carr. Here in the ACT, they were
around before Labor got back into office in 2001, so sometime during the
    1995-2001 Liberal era.

I'll dig around on the other states and see if I can find out, or if the
    group can fill us in.

well there have been several instances here in QLD where the outgoing
coalition left some time bombs for the current labor arseholes. now they
have been there long enough its becoming a stretch to claim any one else
in the last few years left XXX for them , but we may see a change some
time soon so Im sure the forthcoming incumbent will either leave
something or frantically kill that same upon regaining office .. its
been that way for far to long and as a populace we don't do anything to
    stop them .
Pauline was got at so its back to the two party system , at least when
Joe was relevant we knew he was dodgy but the life style was awsome ,
    now its just shiite.,

Actually truth be known I don't dislike Clem... or Theo or Paulh or even
Nev... well maybe Nev... its just that we don't have a huge amount in common
and tend to all fly off!

I presume you're referring to the unlamented former Premier, Johannes
Bjelke-Petersen, the guy who almost, like a large crop of his Ministers, did
time in gaol for official corruption.

In which parallel universe was he relevant?

Twas the libs (NG) here in NSW that bought in blue-ground white text warning
signs for stationary car cameras and in the days when we used slant radar, -
placed typcally 10 meters after the unit - on the ground...

NSW ALP allowed fixed speed camera warning signs, despite some road safety
experts (remember early this year) - these will NOT be removed like I said
at the time. RTA acknowledge speed limits as a 'very political issue'.

NSW has been one of the better ALP states on this camera warning signs
issue. Still, we messed up with cost for the driver manual (RUH) and
various other charges for all topical areas. QLD second:) Vic last, but
many women find Bracks 'cute' and vote for him on that basis. Only good
thing out of Vic was Bracks decision to continue the installation of
wire-rope barriers to prevent crossover incedence.

NSW Libs/Nats continue to desire 'removal' of fixed speed cameras, despite
our fairest system. VIC Libs look set to adopt NSW style warning signs, but
would be advised to remove some of the proposed Vic cameras.

WA Libs look set to adopt warning signs and hopefully other modern concepts.

Somewhere in here intercity freeway and highway speed limits must be raised
for road safety to become a little more credible.

the coalition left some time bombs... thats an understatement.

I've worked for both, while some of the pollies seem nice to talk to,(even
play golf with) none of them are actually interested in improving the
state. They just want to win the next election and get more money(and
spending the public's money on themselves).

The only reason anything gets done is because some public servants do alot
more than their paid for. Yet the pollies take the credit when it goes
right and blame public servants when it goes wrong.

  15. (sigh) Says something about the human race when it takes just one frontal
and two oblique attacks to reduce a middle-aged man to arranging a fistfight
    over the internet...

My granddad would have left school at 12, when he had learnt all he
needed to know. That would have been the class of '84.
