I have been on several now, but this was the most enjoyable for entirely
    selfish reasons.
In the past, ToG has kindly offered bed, dinner, great company and
general bollocks, prior to a run down to the ferry and greatly
    appreciated it has been.

This year, as we were a bit further W, I decided that the HSF
Poole-Cherbourg was the way forward as I had never previously made the
effort to see the D-Day area.

This offered a few advantages, one being to stay with an infrequently
seen mate who lives 15 mins from the port, another being the usual route
that I use to get to Dorset only involves 20 mins of M5 from Worcester
to Stroud before disappearing into the undergrowth to Melksham avoiding
Brissel and they janners. Final advantage is a saving of ca 170miles,
fuel saved helping defray the extra cost of the ferry.

Journey out, no problem except that I got rained on in Cherbourg /and/
in Caudebec and environs, unlike the other bastards who only got wet the
once. On the bright side nothing caught fire and I took no hits from
    bouncing anti-bike mines.

Got pissed, talked bollocks, went for a swan with Dodger, Boots, Higgins
and his BiL, got pissed again but not quite as badly.

Yesterday, went off fearing the worst but the Frog weather forecasters
are obviously every bit as toss as the UK versions, so can I just say,
    Cab? GFY.

Did the route that I planned for Friday and failed to do due to the
weather. Went via Villers-Bocage up to the beaches and bimbled along
    empty roads.

Topped the tank near Carentan and got the ferry. I had an uninterrupted
ride through Wilts, Gloucester and up the border road from Kidderminster
through the dusk, roads to myself, power rangers had all long gone
    consequently so had dibble.

Got home at 2130 with the fuel light on for last 15 miles, 24+ litres
required so at least a litre left in the tank. Probably.

So, much more proper riding required than normal and that's a definite
    plus.

An excellent weekend and thanks to ColCab enterprises for worrying so I
didn't have to. A thanks as well to all the other cunts for being there
and each in their own way, adding to the entertainment.

Please Sir, may I have some more?

I havt travelling from S Wales to Dover.

I'm using the overnight LDLines from Portsmouth to Le Havre[1] and return
with Brittany Ferries from Cherbourg[2] to Portsmouth[3] in September.

[1] LDL is cheaper for an overnight crossing than BF, plus LeH saves quite
a few km as I'm heading towards Reims
[2] last weekend will be spent only 15km from Cherborg
[3] would've preferred the Poole route but it was full with other people
attending the same chateau based function as me. HSF only has tie downs for
    16 bikes or so, IIRC[4]
[4] so book early if you are using the route on a popular date
