Kwak Dilemma - Z750S or ER-6f?

I'm a newish rider looking for my first big bike.
My local Kawasaki dealer has got two new bikes on offer
and they're both about the same price:

    1. Kwak ER-6f
    2. Kwak Z750S

The 750 is about £400 more. The ER looks cooler
with its plastic dress, but the heavier more musclular
    750 looks more like a 'proper' bike. I'm 6ft
and about 14 stone. The head says ER, but the
    brain says the 750. Comments?

(On my Direct Access I was throwing the little
Honda 500 around fairly easily so I reckon the
    750 ridden 'sensibly' shouldn't be a major
    problem..)

too much of a handful. Get some insurance quotes first though -
insurers might assume the 750 is somehow riskier.

As Simon says, get insurance quotes first - the Z is probably in a
much higher group. Personally, I think both bikes look like shit - if
you want a biggish nearly naked bike, buy a Suzuki.

4 doors shortened. No collateral damage.

    Hmm. Which fits you best?

OK, I've not ridden the ER-6, but as Champ quite rightly points out I do
have a Z750. It's a very good basic bike for not a lot of money [1].
It's big enough to be comfortable for all day riding, and the engine is
more than sufficient and it's very easy to find yourself going more
    quickly than you ought.

    Where it is let down is the heavy chassis, cheap suspension and brakes;
the consequence of which is that I don't think you can't really make
full use of the engine. I don't feel as in control as I'd like to when
the throttle is open on the Zed, and sometimes feel more of a passenger
than the pilot IYSWIM - though the bikes I'm comparing it to are either
a lot less powerful or a lot more expensive.

From what I've seen, the ER-6 has similarly budget bits, so may suffer
similarly, but is likely to be troubled less as it has a smaller engine
and is likely to have rather different characteristics.

If it wasn't for your height and weight, I'd suggest that the ER-6 might
be the better option, but bearing those in mind I'll probably suggest
the Zed, but with the caveat that it's got a lot more opportunity to get
    you into trouble.

Oh and if you do buy a Zed, get a black one, as the coloured ones all
look silly from the side :)

[1] Compared to a day's DIY consequential damage bill for example

Err.. probably in my arse. That was meant to be 'The
heart says ER..' Actually 'The superego says ER and the
dick says Z' sounds more like it. Whatever - just the
inane ramblings of a sweaty excited newcomer.

They've only got a silver one (Galaxy Silver Type 2...) which does look
    pretty kewl.

Yeah, the Z is a big fat bike with a considerable hp. When my
girlfriend saw it, she goes 'that looks like a car engine under the
seat'. Then refering to the black ER-6 in the showroom, 'That one's
    nicer.'

Sometimes only the latest bike is good enough. The cost doesn't matter
if you can afford it and I'd be just as pissed off if I dropped an old
nail as a new bike because it's the pain it causes me that matters
rather than the damage to the bike.

Being new to big bikes, the OP probably wouldn't get close to the 750's
limitations and it would drag him round a little more readily than the ER-6,
particularly if his missus wants to "backie"
    Oh yes.
Nah, orange, although someone [1] told me today that black bikes can't be
"seen" by radar operated camera's though, so maybe they're a better choice.

[1] There's no point arguing with.

Was this the same bloke that told you hairspray made your numberplate
invisible to speed cameras and sucking a tuppeny bit allowed you to beat
    the breathaliser?

I agree - funnily enough, my dislike of buying new /cars/ doesn't
extend to bikes. Probably because the "instant depreciation" is so
much less, combined with the fact bikes require more care running in.
