Several things IMO: Height to see over cages, quick steering, loadsa
torque, instant throttle response no matter what gear you are in.

That's what makes the thou such a handy commuter - it could do the
entire trip in first and still get me banned. I only change up as far as
third because it's a bit quieter under 4k rpm.

Only thing that'd concern me is width and height of bars. The thou's the
perfect height that the (narrow) bars go under car mirrors, the mirrors
go over car mirrors, and everything goes under van mirrors.

Still, only one way to find out if it'll work: buy one and try it.

I think it's the instant off-idle urge you get with a big single,
coupled with soft suspension that makes the front go light everytime
    you crack the throttle.

The Raptor's similar, but the crap fuel range & fluffy fuelling at low
RPM on a steady throttle mean it ain't a great city commuter.

The Rotax 500 on mine is an absolute hoot in traffic. It says 33BHP on
the tin, but the pickup is instant, just about as quick off the mark
as the R30, which had the 650 suzuki engine in it.

Plus, this one I just don't care about, so it gets chucked about in
traffic, being mindful of the oh so powerful drum front brake,
    natch :-0

And what I'm after is something to use for the cross-town commute as an

    V-Strom 650. Great commuter bike.

That is the major downside of SMs & trailies for city commuting, but
Renthal do all sorts of different height bars, & they're only around 25
quid. I put 'road bar highs' on L's SV & 'road bar lows' on the Raptor.
The width is easily sorted with a hacksaw.

Usual questions - what year, how many miles, is it standard, why isn't
    it orange, etc?

Btw, if you're serious about wanting to sell it, don't hang about - I've
got a wad of cash to throw about [1] and if I haven't impulse-bought
something by the end of the weekend I'll be amazed.

[1] assuming the cleaner hasn't nicked it, which would be rather
    disappointing.

    Year 2002
    Miles 6800 (from memory)
Standard, yes very. Only mods are: removal of Californian EPS stuff, air
    box mod and re-jetted.
Orange? Because it's black and white.

Yes serious. It doesn't get enough use and I'd rather it got thrashed by
you that it sit in the garage,
