I know kreem is made for gas tanks but has anyone had any experience
using the acid solution to clean carbs??

  3. using the acid solution to clean carbs??

It's Muriatic Acid, I think, strong stuff, like swimming pool acid used
to dissolve rust stains on tile...

I wouldn't recommend using any such strong acid on the aluminum parts
of carburetors. The aluminum will probably turn black PDQ...

The brass jets in your carbs are more resistant to corrosive materials,
that's why a lot of ship's fittings are made of brass...

Besides gumming up from evaporating gasoline, the other thing that
plugs jets is calcium bicarbonate, a white substance like you find in
the bottoms of aluminum pots that have been used to boil water...

The calcium bicarbonate forms from water in the gasoline reacting with
    the alcohols in the gasoline...

There are mild acids available, like Lime-Away and CLR, that will
remove lime and rust from the fixtures in your bathroom without eating
    them up...

And Tarn-X, used for cleaning silverware is a bit stronger, I think
it's phosphoric or oxalic acid such as used to flush radiators...

You might consider experimenting with one of those products, or a
dilute solution of Hydrochloric Acid. You're carrying about a pint of
that stuff around in your stomach right now, so it's not that strong an
    acid...
But, your carbs are your property. Do what you want with them...

Er, muriatic and hydrochloric are the same thing. Most of the tank cleaning
solutions are phosphoric. It's less aggressive on good metal and leaves a
    phosphate film.

Not that I'd use any of them to clean a carb.

  5. others: Muratic acid will dissolve your carbs, just like it did the
petcock I left in a tank when I prepped it.

I took the petcock off of my gas tank when I used Muratic Acid to etch
    off the rust...

It worked OK, but whatever acid comes in the Kreem kit seemed to work
    better...
