  1. Hi-
I'm planning to ride from the Bay Area to Kelseyville this weekend. Mapquest
says it will take around 21/2 hours. The directions say to go up to River Rd
off 101 and on some smaller roads to highway 29. Does this sound about
right? The directions say to ride over Mt St. Helena. How twisty are the
    roads up there?
    Thanks for any info- Carol

  2. its pretty twisty but not really tight. last time I was up that way,
those roads were in quite good shape. can be large numbers of RVs pulling
boats on the main ways in and out of Clear Lake, however, expect slow
    going with few passing opportunities.

River Road is west of US101... To the east, its Mark West Springs Rd per
my map, which turns into Porter Creek Road to Petrified Forest Road.
That stretch from north Santa Rosa to Calistoga is a neat bit of road
through woods and vineyards up and over some ridges.

you could stay on 101 north to Hopland, and take 175 east to the lake,
    that might be less trafficked.
