    It'll be pissing down when I go all the way to Abingdon on my CG125 on
    boxing day.

    Bandit needs a new tyre, FZR needs a new shim on 1 valve. :(

    If only, it needs a smaller shim coz there is no clearance. That's why
    I can't use it. Now to find out what the torque of the cam shaft bearing
    caps is supposed to be.

  6. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
    6mm bolts/studs? Usually around 15-18lb/ft (don't offhand recall the
    metric thingy).
    Yer index finger on a 5" spanner.

    I'd guess that about 12 Nm would be about right.

    I've said this before, but when I do drag a torque wrench out for
    stuff-wot-matters, I'm always surprised by how little "oomph" is needed.

    I clearly spend most of my time over-tightening the less critical stuff.

    I think that's what's caused the mis-recollection [1] on my part. I'm
    sure the HBoL for the GSs says something similar for the camcap bolts,
    ie, too high.

    IIRC the cam cap bolts on my old GS550 had a torque value of 8 lb/ft.

    As it's a tiddly 250, I'll stick to between 8 and 10 lb/ft if I can't
    find out for definite. I'll do some more research, but info about the
    internals of the FZR250 is a little hard to come by.

    Engine capacity has no bearing on the torque value, it's down to the
    size of the bolt. I think you'll find they are 6mm, in which case 12 Nm
    should be about right.
