Thanks Boris; I think that's the go.
I just have to wait a few weeks so I can claim back the GST when I go to
    NZ.

I have an Olympus C-740 (10x optical zoom, 3.2 mp). At the time it had one of the best lenses available on the market, and for macro
it was unmatched in it's class. Not sure what the latest version is like though. This one is a coupla years old.

I'd be surprised if Olympus lenses have lost any quality.

When you leave the country you can claim back the GST on any items you
take with you. The restrictions are (something like) you must have
purchased the item within 3 weeks of your departure, you must carry the
item out of the country (you literally have to carry the item onto the
plane, it cannot go in your checked in luggage).

Yeah, I see what you mean M-B
They wouldn't......would they? They might've bought out Fuji.
Next we'll be getting Honda cameras and Fuji Fireblades.

The new 50cc Honda I had in 1959 had a cigarette lighter in
the tool kit. Most small jap bikes in those days had free lighters
thrown in with the tools. Even the horrible Victa scooters did.
Honda don't bother with free cigarette lighters nowdays do they?

I find that v-hard to believe, i think you are refering to Minolta.Or
perhaps its just the importer losing the Fujifilm agency?And/or going
into a *marriage* with another brand.

Perhaps it was a like Ford seller commenting on a Holden product?

Fujifilm have just released 2 new cameras [also a new logo] and a few
more are on the way very soon. They are without doubt one of the best
    digital products on the market.

They wont be stopping, not a hope in hell

Thanks for that, I'll happily go and buy a Fuji camera now. While they
    are still discounting them.
Can't remember which salesman told me that, but you are probably
right about it being a competitor of Fuji. Bastard liars shouldn't be able
to get away with s_ _ t like that. I would have bought a Fuji that very
day otherwise. Bought nothing because every other camera I liked was
much more expensive than the Fuji and the suggestion that Fuji might be
stopping production of cameras made me decide to buy nothing until
    I'd checked the story.

Yep; as it was explained to me it's 30 days and a single receipt over $300.
(I.e.multiple items can be on a sigle receipt).
You may still have to pay GST on something you bring back in if it isn't a
    "personal" item though.

If you 'cant fix it you can burn it!

  18. The closest I can relate this piece of information to, is that Fuji has
plans to (or already has) stop manufacturing photographic film.

and the only time it needed fixing/burning was on a trip from Christchurch
to Picton in 1965 when the rear tyre blew out at 40 something mph. My
luck changed when a farmer stopped and said he'd give me a lift to the
bike shop in Seddon, (about 20 miles from Blenheim) so he helped me
put it on the back of his ute. We were both surprised how light it was.
If not for his help I might well have used the lighter on it that day Clem.

The relative I sold it to still has it and although the engine still runs,
    it does
need an overhaul. It must have done well over 70,000 miles by now.
I think the odometer only went up to 10,000 miles so it's hard to be sure
exactly how many times it went around the clock.

This would be true for dust anywhere in the focal path other
than the focal plane, however the nature of the beast
dictates that dust on the CCD would give the same effect
regardless of aperture, much like dead pixels on your CCD.
Given that your CCD is your focus plane, it's rather
"difficult" to un-focus your focus plane, or that speck of
dust sitting on it... but being a photographer, you already
    knew that.

That said, however... I agree... dust is not the monster
some seem to think it is.
