Their MX boots don't seem to cater for muscular legs.

IME their MX boots don't seem to cater for riding a motorbike. My right
one snapped clean in half across the sole, right where you press it on
    the kickstart.

I'm dead happy with my Tech 3s. They're well made with just the right
amount of flex to operate controls while still giving maximum support
and protection. They leak like a seive though, but weren't sold as
    waterproof.

  4. Cheap shit out of last years cheap shit fashion box that is kept near the
door of the shop in the hopes the stuff will get nicked and the shopkeeper
can be rid of it for summer wear and Panthans for winter. TINA.

What is it about MX boots. They leak like a sieve from the outside in
and yet, at the same time, seem to be waterproof when you want the
water that's got in to get out again.

It's fine once the water is warm, but when cold having it sloshing
around as you go uphill/downhill/whatever is a bit of an irritation.

Yes, thanks for that. That's another £23.49 spent that I haven't got.
They'd better be as good as you say.

If you want the best protection available, buy a car.

Not sure of the wisdom of buying old stock, but Padgetts have some clearance
    Arais in for silly money:

e.g. Astro-J (the lid I've had for the last 5 years or so) for £180.

    I should think so too.

Should be fine. I bought an Arai helmet that had been sitting in a store
room for 5 years at Claremont M/c in Gloucester. I didn't notice any
premature ageing in the five years or so that I wore it. I only replaced it
because the visor broke near the hinge.

I think helmets only start to degrade once they get exposed to sunlight but
mostly from the internals being attacked by bodily secretions, hair
products, pollution and the decaying remnants of insects.

Only thing I've found with Alpinestars gloves is they tend to be a bit
odd where finger length is concerned. Sometimes the thumbs are a bit
short, other times it's the fingers. I wouldn't buy any without trying
them on. Hell, even when I have tried them on I've been caught out.

I could always Nige 'em out. 20 odd quid for a pair of gloves isn't a
    huge risk imo.

IIRC helmets used for PPE were supposed to be changed 10yrs from
manufacture or 5yrs from first use whichever came first.

I have a pair of goretex A-stars. They're great, but if my hands are
at all wet, they are a real bitch to put on. For summer gloves, I like
deerskin. I'm trying to convince myself these are worth the exorbitant
    cost:

I'm on my third pair of these, I find them pretty comfy:

    http://www.aerostich.com/off-and-ri...in-gloves/aerostich-elkskin-roper-gloves.html

"Made of natural tan medium to heavy weight elkskin, they are thicker,
stronger and more abrasion resistant than deerhide and they’ll last much
    longer."

I use silk inners whenever I'm wearing lined gloves. Makes them a doddle
to get on and off even when sweaty and adds a bit of extra insulation
    against the cold.

Not so good on hot days, but that's where the non-lined gloves come in.
