Clearly the fuckwits in charge are offering their staff a bigger bonus
for new customers so they (the staff) don't give a rat's arse whether
the existing customers are retained.

Quote lots of customer retention articles.
"The cost of acquiring customers and putting them on the books generally
runs two to four times the annual cost of serving existing customers."

Or it could simply be xenophobia and your name causes undue fear.

 

Heh. I had a similar one with Admiral (on the car) as they do the
same thing with auto-renewal. Luckily the card had expired but I sent
them a letter to say I wouldn't be taking up their generous offer of
double the price of every other quote.

Two weeks later I got a snotty letter telling me that the payment on
the card had been refused and that I was now breaking the law by
driving without insurance, and gave me lots of details on how to
pay.

As was noted above, consumer apathy seems to be their target market.

Poor form, but just for completeness...

A call to Aunty Carole, and a quick reality check (on their part) has
resulted in me staying with them for one more year.

Don't accept renewal quotes, folks...
