  3. Wotcha.

Not content with trying to get me shot outside RAF Cosford, the MZ has now
tried to kill me by means of fire. It quite happily leaked petrol down the
tank and on to the rather hot engine. Good job I'm now used to the devious
ways of this machine, and the plot was foiled.

On closer examination, it seems the side panels on the tank, which were
originally chrome, had been taken off and painted gold by one of its
previous owners. Now they must have lost the little screws which attach the
tank badges, so they used the next best thing. Some nice half inch long
self tapping screws. . . . which end in a lovely sharp point. These screws
had merrily burrowed into the side of the petrol tank, and were acting as a
needle valve until the time came to try and set me on fire. Araldite and
brass machine screws have now put paid to that little plot. It also gave me
the opportunity to give the inside of the tank a clean out, along with the
    filters in the petrol tap.

I fully expect the bike to waiting with an axe next time I venture into the
    garage ;-)

And people here were suggesting that I get an MZ.

A mobile 'auto electrician' fitted a carphone to our old MD's new Merc a few
years back. Boss complained of petrol smells for the next week or two. Merc
took the car back for investigation. They called to say that the cause of
the fumes was that the carphone monkey had mounted the transceiver power
module to the boot floor with 2" self tappers, which had gone through the
floor and into the plastic fuel tank. That would have been bad enough, but
there were _2_ additional sets of holes drilled in the boot floor under and
around the transceiver where he'd tried to mount it and got it in the wrong
position the first couple of times.

Many moons ago one of my staff drilled upwards into the engine bay of

off work for ages because the battery acid poured into his face and

Surely petrol tank repair putty is a better option as the petrol is
going to disolve the araldite and you will be in the same position at

Araldite is epoxy resin based - the same epoxy resin that is sold as
    "Petseal".

    I think ( hope ).
