Only because the nerds that write viri can't be bothered.

Macs are like Beta video players. They work as well or even better but
    nobody cares.

Nope, but I still dont think they should call it Unix. Unix was not
free, FreeBSD is. Though I'm caring less and less what they fucking
call it, bet you cant play TuxRacer, Chromium or Return to Castle
    Wolfenstien on it ;-)

    * Resorting to Personal Attack Instead of Refuting Argument #1

Oh my god. You just keep digging and digging that hole. I was wondering
how to refute your claims of what grog said at LCA 2002, then I struck
    upon the best way.
    "Grog just wouldn't say that"
That's simply how you refute it.

Greg's talk at LCA 2002 was about why linux sucks and why BSD is the
best. It was suitably entitled "Why BSD is better than Linux" or do you
need to go back and check your copy of the slides?
I find it absurdly amusing that you suggest that Grog inferred that BSD
and linux were basically the same in a talk entitled "Why BSD is better
    than linux"

I went back and reread the slides just in case and I am bamboozled as to
how you could make that link. It doesn't exist.

Taking your argument on its own merits, although BSD is *more* similar
to RedHat and Debian than it is to, say, Solaris or AIX or IRIX
there is a vast chasm of difference ranging from
the BSD development cycle to the originator of the BSD code (which
is written largely by old school guys like grog), not to mention the
whole concept of ports.which , while similar to Debian is far from the
same thing especially considering FreeBSD focuses on recompilation
    or compilation of new code.

Wrong *again*! Openstep was the OS/set of libraries that Apple bought
from NextStep which Apple turned into YellowBox in their Rhapsody
release and is now living as Cocoa. It's still only an API. It's nowhere
    close to a Window Manager.

Holy shit, just like every other Unix too! What's your point?

Round here = the dark ages? "Round here" is hardly indicative or
reflective of a majority (or dare I say it even a sample section) of
    computing environments.

    * Resorting to Personal Attack Instead of Refuting Argument #2

HAH. You picked the wrong person to compare dick sizes with. I have
about 20 SGI boxes in direct line of sight and many more throughout the
office. And no, none of them were fucking cheap.

You don't know these things inside out because you find bikes more
    interesting?
I find hundreds of things more interesting than *nix but it doesn't
preclude me from knowing at least the base facts and I certainly don't
make spurious comments without at least sanity checking them first.

    * Resorting to Personal Attack Instead of Refuting Argument #3
I already do all of the above as often as opportunity permits. (last
    night for example)
well, ok, i rode to the pub for a few beers...

What's the point? When I've finished schooling you in *nix we can move
    on to Latin. :)

  13. Well, Dane_is_the newcomer... he gets the 300 quatloos put on him 'cause
he's managing to stay aloof... capturing the high ground is half the
    battle...

Meanwhile... I have only the weakest of compulsions to delve into the world
of operating systems; does that somehow make me less human?

Probably more. But that's okay. You get to troll people on
physics, Hammo trolls chemistry, I'm generally happy to troll
on about Linux and Unix generally. (but Dane gets better responses ;-) )
