We had chicken nuggets this evening.

Second youngest kid asked what they were:

    A: "Chicken nuggets"

Kid: "oh.." <pause> "What do the do with the rest of the chicken?"

    I nearly choked.

Last week I was carrying/dragging Emma up to bed and she started to say
something, stopped and then said, "I'm not going to say what I was". I
decided not to persue the issue so just got her ready for bed, teeth
brushed, tucking in, bedtime story and all.

Just as I was saying good night she sat up and looked at me with a very
serious look on her little face.

"Can I tell you what I was going to say earlier?" she asked.

"Yes, I suppose so" I said.

    There was a pause ...

"It's a bit difficult to say", she told me, still looking very, very serious
    indeed.

    "It's OK, just tell me"

    Another long pause then ...

"I love mummy more than you" she quipped and then lay down.

    They're wonderful, aren't they?

I'm not surprised, poor little sod. What with you packing a bag,
    unpacking, packing again, unpacking...

(Sounds like you'd better pack it again, BTW. "We really mean it this

  15. When I were nobbut 10, we were sitting at school lunch when the conversation
somehow turned to peacocks. "Ah", said the young teacher in [nominal]
charge of the table, "does anyone know what the female of the peacock is
    called?"

"Er, peacunt, Sir?" said the lad next to me.

I found the teachers comments after the kids had been eating JO's food
    for a few weeks interesting:

They don't fade in the afternoons.
They now maintain concentration all day.
We haven't had to use the nebuliser (?SP) for asthma attacks once since
    the new dinners started.

The effect of nutrition on mental ability can be quite considerable.
The performance of kids at school, or better the lack thereof, can
often directly be attributed to the quality of grub they get at home.
Which helps to explain partially why kids from better off families tend
    to do better, on average.

  19. From this we deduce that a goodly proportion of posters here subsist on
