Anybody got info/experience on the above bike? Bruv is looking to buy one,
    so his SO can
have use of the car.. Its P reg, black/purple 20-oddK miles and going for
    £1,300 approx
from the dealer. Anything to be aware of when riding/maintaining it, ie any
    idiosyncrasies about it
he needs to watch out for?

    cheers

Hi, I had one for 2 years until a couple of months ago.

Price seems quite good from a dealer, but are they chucking in any
warranty etc? With 20k on the clock probably want to check the rear
suspension and exhaust if it's still got the standard twin exhausts on.
Mine had a big hole in by 16k which resulted in a replacement.

Other than that IMHO a good bike, cheap to run [1], economical and just
about enough fun to keep you interested, especially if it's being used
mainly for commuting. If you keep on top of cleaning and maintenance
    should do okay.

He will have to get used to plenty of 'chick wheels' gibes and down the
nose looks from bike shop staff though :)

  5. Well yes, obviously, but no dealer is ever going to use that description
    whilst selling the thing....

  7. Cheryl has an evil plan to restore her poor helpless Morris Minor and
then paint it in the paints that have the metallic flakes in them..
starting off light at the front and shading to deep purple at the back.

More purple than a purple thing in purpleville.

I have one at the monent which is featured on the site below, feel free to
have a look. I love it, it's not overly powerful hense i am still alive and
it's cheap to run/maintain. Look out for the gear shift, has a habbit of
working loose. in general make sure bolts and fairings have not worked
loose. Apart from that, buy it!

    one,

I have an 'L' reg one for the last two years, I've done 20,000 miles
    commuting 45miles/day round trip.

    Good points:
Slim, for getting through the traffic queues.
Very little vibration through the handlebars.
Enough power to loose your licence. (120mph - not on public roads, officer)
    Reasonable handling, even two up.
Easy to change oil and filter.
Economic 50 - 55mpg. Tank goes for 175 before switching to reserve.
    Very reliable. (so far)

    Bad points:
    Small size.
Seat can be numbing after a couple of hours.
    Not enough power.
Air filter and spark-plugs are a bugger to get at.
Only breakdown was caused by the side-stand cutout switch failing.
Finish is looking a bit rough at the welds, but this is only cosmetic.
    Girls bike.

I often think about getting somthing bigger but then I realize that I would
take just as long doing the same journey along the A10 because of the
traffic, and it would be less economic, cost more to insure and other costs
like tyres would be increased. For me, using it to commute its not a bad
    bike.

Hmm I've actually find that my journey takes longer since switching my
GPZ, particularly in the summer. Can't figure out why though :)
    Yep those too :)
I *really* wanted to keep mine for the journey to work TBH. Mind you one
thing the Gixer has is I can get everything I need for a normal day in a
bag under the seat. Couldn't do that on the GPZ.

Purple has no place on a bike.

    Isn't that right Pip?

It looked pretty shit at the BOSM. Whether it's more shit than last year
    I don't know.

That it looks shit, is of course, my opinion but anodised bolts are the
motorcycle equivalent of bodykits on Vauxhalls. And Renaults for that
    matter.

I dunno, I quite liked it, in a 'this is taking the piss out of
itself' sorta way that could only work with a GPz500S.
