Hasn't it occurred to you that maybe you should have chosen the full
fat version rather than a girls bike?

Without stripping it down you don't know what sort of bushes are in
there. You might find that the 750 has DU type bushes which don't need
regular greasing. I doubt if it does have them but you never know...

If you want to look through the service manual to try and find out, it's
available to download (as is the z1000)

    Yes.

The Z750 was always my stepping stone back towards proper motorcycles.
I'm not sure yet if I want to step forward or step back.

Oh I noticed tonight (at Frazer's buying yet more cheese bits to replace
broken cheese bits) that the clutch lever mechanisms are different too
    as are the footrest hangers...

Oh I know yours will be better handling and a lot gruntier.

Still like to have a go though, so it's not too late...

Just let me get the hang of this one first, OK?

    No problem.

About halfway down this (very long) list of links to service manuals.

Looking in the papers at "new" pre-reg, Z750/S £4k, Z1000 £5k, so about
a thousand difference in real terms

As we have determined there's a reasonable amount of difference; engine,
suspension and brakes being those you'd care about.

I got my showroom condition (thought it's not now), 1900 mile, Z750 for
a tad over 3k which I think is reasonable for what it is. It's not an
    out and out sports bike.

Personally if I was getting Z1000 performance I'd want a proper frame
mounted fairing to hide behind. The 750 motor pushes the bike faster
    than is comfortable sat outdoors.

So, the thou is probably worth a grand more, but for me the 750 does the
    job.

True to their word they delivered my ZR750K6F today (I couldn't get out
of work early, again, so they delivered it to my neighbour for me [who
recently gave up his bikes after coming off in a race at Thruxton]). As
a nice bonus, they stuck a 12 month tax disc on it instead of the
    expected six.

Had a quick trip out on it to fill the tank and it seems excellent,
unlike the weather with huge black clouds looming overhead - although
the forecast for the weekend here is very promising. 4,000 rpm for 500
miles should just take me to 60mph, so I'll try and stick to it.

Unfortunately I see a treat for the wife coming up at the weekend, to
keep her quiet about my new rather extravagant purchase. I expect the
holiday brochures will be coming out.
