I've seen some good deals on pre-reg Kawasaki Z750S's out there, 05
model year. Can anyone tell me what the difference is on the 06 version
(there's some good deals on that too, but not quite so good)?

Unless I am much mistaken, the only change is that the 05 is available
in Pearl Magma Red, Metallic Spark Black and Candy Plasma Blue, and the
06 is available in Galaxy Silver Type 2, Metallic Spark Black and Candy
    Raw Plasma Blue.

So 05 is red or black or blue, the 06 is silver, black or a slightly
    different blue

Kawasaki claim same power on both and as the weight is also unchanged I
suspect nothing else has changes either.

I've already discovered the black is a bastard to clean (admittedly it's
Ebony not Metallic Spark Black) so I'd suggest an 06 in Galaxy Silver
    Type 2

How much more, given same registration date and mileage?

    OK, should I get:

    1) Brand new, unregistered 06 bike from a local dealer for £4700 with first
service free and a promise of doing a good deal on new helmet/jacket (will
also deliver for free if the weather is crap).

    2) Brand new, pre-registered (yesterday) 05 bike on a 55 plate from a dealer
100 miles away for £4000 (will cost me £200 to have delivered or a train
ticket and several hours of my time, probably in the wet)?

Advice appreciated - plan on ordering one or other in the next 24h

That's not silver, it's drifter beige.

I'd go for the per-reg one. You'll be able to negotiate the same deal
on jacket and trousers at any dealer when you're spending £4k. I'd
also try looking at MCN in case there's a dealer offering them at the
lower price but closer to home.

Thanks. Done it. They got me a better deal on insurance too (-£100).

Will be ready Tuesday. Hope we get a few dry days in November.

I've seen the colour described as titanium, champagne, silver and
drifter beige. My log book says silver but I don't mind if Platy
describes it as being the same colour as his Drifter. Anyone else can
just **** off because unless they've got something better their
opinion isn't really worth a wank.

Saw the new 600 Fazer in France. Other than a stupid height step in
the seat, for pillion, its very sweet indeed for what it is. The
quality of finish seemed good for a Yam.

Thank **** for that. I was getting close to kill-filing you; you're one
of the few people that procrastinates more than I do. At least I have
fixations on a variety of bikes.
Hurrah, and not a hope. If you ride it it will get dirty and it's a
bastard to clean. But then you knew that.

Right I'm off to bed. Got to be up early to discuss the various broken
bits on my Z750 with Frazer's tomorrow morning so they can sort the
warranty claim out, the unreliable, poorly finished heap of Japanese
    shit.

FFS - I only asked about it twice and bought it within 48hrs. You should
see me when I'm after a new TV.
Thanks for speaking up before I bought one, you could have mentioned the
problems - I took your advice and didn't buy a black one though. At
least with a warranty problems (should) get fixed.

I can think of loads of unfunny comments to make at this point but
I'll stick with saying you've actually seen the bike.

What I don't get is, they seem to be able to build great, albeit pig
ugly, cars. I thought they were experts at miniaturisation?

Even if it's shite, I bet you look cute on it. Where's the pics?

It's winning me over, slowly but surely,

I'm discovering that unlike the Germans and the Americans (whose shoddy
output I'm more familiar with), the Japanese are putting significant
work into making sure their products last.

Indeed my Kawasaki is coated with a corrosion inhibiting dust. I pointed
it out to the dealer today and they said it was called "RAAST" I've
Googled for it and looked in the Owners Manual but I can't find out what
the acronym means. It'll be Kawasaki Really Advanced Anti-Stain
    Treatment or some such nonsense.

There must be state of the art nano-technology in RAAST, as it spreads
almost like it were alive, to coat all the fasteners and frame with the
    thin preserving layer.

I'm looking forward to the spring, when I can rinse the bike over and
see how RAAST has kept my Japanese beauty preserved from all that the
British Winter can throw at it.

Of course I'm sure that eventually my German and American bikes will
look grubby after a winter as many people say they will, but the Zed
will always look just like it rolled out of the showroom due to the
    protective powers of RAAST.

Still it's off the road for a while as in a spirit of eco-friendliness,
Kawasaki had the sense to make the clutch lever bracket out of
Kyoto-compliant recycled cheese. Actually, now I come to think of it,
that bracket was one of the few bits that wasn't protected by the
Kawasaki RAAST system. I'll have to have words with the dealer when I
pick up another one on Tuesday to ensure that this new (recycled) part
has been properly protected with a layer of RAAST before I fit it.
    :)

  19. I'm sensing a lack of positive feelings about this bike.
    :)

Every weekday morning on the way to work I see a poster for a film
staring Alec Baldwin with his mug grinning at me. I keep thinking it's
    you.

It's not that bad, I just felt like posting all the negative stuff just
after David confirmed that he'd handed over the cash as I'm a bit evil
    sometimes :)

I'd suggest that the bike isn't exactly well balanced; in that the
chassis, suspension and brakes are not as good as the engine and the
tyres. There's a feeling that you can't really go for it as the you'll
get into trouble. But then if they sorted the rest if would be a 7R and
    more expensive.

That said, I (OK, the bike) was happily pottering along at 90-100 and
the thought "I wonder what?" was immediately answered with 135 and
    rising before I eased off.

The real let down is the appalling build quality; OK the design and
performance are years ahead of the Harley, but the build and materials
are years behind. I've got used to the Harley being not quite as good
easy to look after if you're riding in inclement weather than the old
Beemers; but 7 years on it only takes a wash and wax to look as good as
it did the day it was bought.

The Kawasaki is already showing signs that rather than being difficult
to keep looking 100% if I use it, it just isn't going to be possible to
    keep it looking great.

Still, the fuel gauge problem was a niggle, but nothing that can't be
fixed. Shame it was fine again and refusing to misbehave at the
dealership. The poor finish on the reflector inside the headlamp is in
truth not really a problem to be worried about

Still the Scottoiler is now on, as is the GPS kit, so I will be going
    out to play :)
You think Snowy looks like Alec Baldwin?
