  1. Indeed.

I *wish* I'd bid for it myself.....

  3. Oh blimey. That would account for it being cheap, then. Seriously.

A couple of decades ago (and more) I remember when Bike had the then-new
XT550 on test. Their offices were in Soho at the time, and the bikes
were parked in the street outside.

Anyway, they had an office contest: everyone come out and see if you
can start the thing. Everyone from the editor down to the tea boy was
jumping up and down on the kick, trying to persuade it to light its
    fires.

Anyway, I've owned an SR500 and am reasonably well versed in The Dark
    Art.

Reminds me of the time a mate showed up at a FOAFs house with a DR600 -
he thought he'd be smart & tell all comers they could have a play on it
    if they could start it...

First victim was the FOAFs father who upset the multitude by getting it
to start first kick[1] - he didn't have a go because he couldn't reach
the ground but he could start it.

Not sure anyone else managed to start it. Horrible contraption.

    experience

  5. Remember the old Shobba cartoon depicting the terrified football
    players?

"We're done for, lads - we've drawn the Panther Owners' Club!"

    Wotcha.
Figment of the imagination - no such cartoon - never existed - unless you
    mean this one -->

Oh dear - I recalled that one as well.

Single cylinder bikes hold no terror for me - I still run a couple of 500cc
    singles.

  8. Heh. Yes, that's the one. Not for the first time, I wish there was a
    Shobba archive on the web.

It wasn't a black one, by any chance, that might have been parked in the
street in Carshalton sometime in 1990 or 91?
