Hi, I've got a '82 KZ550 which was piddling petrol due to knackered float valves so I decided to do a carb rebuild. Got a set of four K&L 18-2462 repair kits and off I go - but.... The jet needles in the repair kit are not long enough to bottom out on the main jet screwed into the needle jet. They are about 1cm shorter than the original needles on the KZ550 carbs. Never mind, I've got a 2nd set of carbs off an old Z550 and the needles are the same length as the repair kit so I decided to rebuild that carb instead. All fine until I notice that the jet needle stops well short of the main jet - and the original Z550 carb was like that as well. Now confused. Questions:- Has someone before put the wrong jet needle in the Z550 carbs? Are the jet needles supposed to bottom out on the main jet so the idle jet does the idling?? Will I get away with it if I rebuild anyway - the bike did seem to run OK when I tried the old Z550 Carbs on it before rebuild (Well, three cylinders did anyway!) Thanks David
