Karuah River Rally

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Alan Pennykid, Feb 6, 2004.

  1. Is on next weekend (14th/15th). At the Frying Pan Creek campsite in the
lush Chichester State Forest, near Dungog NSW (do not go to Karuah, the
rally is not there). $12 for pre-entries or $15 on the day. Awards for
longest distance male, female, pillion etc, largest club effort (no of
members X distance to nominal club base, no I don't think aus.moto is based
in Broome), oldest BMW *ridden* to the rally, inaugural BM Wanker award (for
the most BMW logos on or about one bike and rider). All awards on Sat night
to allow the distance people to get home.

Quite a few people here have been in the past (Knob, Gnat, TB, Pisshead,
Pat, Boxer, Greg Aldis, new Bonneville rider??? and others), who's got plans
    for this year?

There'll be some basic catering (snag sandwiches, soft drinks etc) there
will be firewood available and toilets on site, anything else is up to
    yourself to organise.

Good swimming and we have at last discovered that leeches are only attracted
to Liberal party hopefuls. A raincoat is often a good idea. Hawaiian
    shirts are not compulsory.

I'll be there Friday afternoon/evening sometime. There are usually 10 or
more there on the Fri night. Get the best spots and all day at the rally
    etc

and Pat'll be there, he said he would... (probably on that fuggin twofiddy
    again).

I can thoroughly recommend Karuah. It was the first (and second) ever
rally I attended and I'd love to be there next weekend but the gods are
conspiring against me so you'll just have to get along without me.
    Cheers .... Clem
[PS. The leaches like a bit of spicy Sri Lankan too!]

Hehe.. Pack leach soap or salt. I think I got the little blighters
before they took a liking to me. T'was a great rally though.. only
prooblem was that there were so many beemers.. they were everywhere..
big ones.. small ones.. weird shaped ones.. ones with the kitchen sink
attached to them.. ones with turbos... <trails off into the distance>

Damn! The CDI coils on the XLV burnt out on Thursday, so it's
not going to be on the road in time! Bollocks!
I was there last year! Postman Pat said I was there!

aus.moto is of course nominally based at Usenet Central Administration
(1060 West Addison, Chicago IL) ...

  8. Hey Clem! If you can't get domestic credits for Karuah, you can always
take a quick spin to Dalveen (between Warwick and Stanthorpe) for the
Vino Collapso rally on the Valentine's Day weekend.

Aye, that were me. Didnt stay long as I had a horrendous Pisshead
Pete induced hangover and I hadnt learnt about luggage racks yet
(pillion + big backpack + 150kph trying to keep up with Boxer = bad
idea). Might be there again this year, possibly accompanied by SWMBO
on the VT250 (though she is apprehensive about the dirt).

    Cheers,
    Ash

Heh, except I'll probably be the one buying the new brake lever (or
    was it a clutch lever?)

Brake lever. I would've made him ride home clutchless but 900km with no
real brakes was a bit much to ask!

Unfortunately[1] I won't be attending this year, I'm spending the
weekend on concreting and pick-and-shovel work preparing for the
UnAugural aus.moto Rally of Tarago on April 10.

(OK, so I'm actually doing it so that I can move to Tarago before
Easter. If all goes well I'll commence the house move on Feb 28th.)

[1] That depends on your point of view, of course. ;-)

Yep, think I'm out too. SWMBO twisted her ankle last night so she's
off the bike for a while, plus I have fencing I really[1] should
    finish...

[1] I was going to leave it dodgey a bit longer, but the dog did take
