Daytona 955..... Taking it to the house. Then have 2 weeks to find/buy a
decent(ish) car and bring it back to load up and then drive back in 8 weeks
time for the final move... So it'll be useful to know about cameras and
that... And 'cos it' the daytona, I'll be aiming to cruise at around
160kmh+ as (a) I'll get there quicker and (b) it returns better mpg at over
a ton(mph), so I won't need to stop so often for fuel (says he having not
actually checked out how many 24 hour services there are between Calais and
Cahors on the Autoroutes but hoping there are at least 3)
The tent was remarkably waterproof. We honestly expected to get back to it
on Friday evening to find everything soaked as it absolutely fucking pissed
down on Friday early evening (it rained every day but Friday pm was the
worst[0]). But it all held up and I even managed to sleep through the
    limiter-abuse 'til 2am and then the 4.30am re-start each night.[1]

[0] Saturday afternoon wasn't much better though - some of the 250 guys were
losing the front *in_a_straight_line* due to the depth of the water forcing
    an aquaplane/folding front end scenario
[1] Praise be for Paddock hospitality and free beers and vodka![2]
[2] Except for Sundaywhen we decided to pace ourselves til after the MotoGP
race[3], only to find Red Bull packing up at 3.30pm! We felt a tad guilty
relieveing the fridge of its contents in one go. But not that guilty.
[3] Which was followed by the first round of the BMW Power Cup... Jesus
those bikes look overwweight, over powered and hard to turn when they're
being thrown around a track like that - loads more stupid than the boxer cup
    ever was!! :)

You should be fine. There's at least one every 40-50km or so, IIRC.
    That's on the A20, innit?

I am just trying to justify to myself why I shouldn't go into Suzuki
dealerships ATM TYVM you miserable sod.

I have decided now - you must have missed the thread.

Definitely getting rid of the 'blade in favour of a Ducati S2R.

Aye, and there's a good few bits of Cab's commute that would easily
    allow this.
Nice that it also shows whether it's face- or arse-facing cameras.
Doesn't currently give GPS co-ordinates though, but seems to offer
them via email, which might be worth considering. Are there any other
site offering this, do you know?
I suspect that they should start taking them a bit more seriously in
the next year or so... hopefully I'm still a bit safer.

He's been saying it for awhile too - and no sign of it actually appearing.

So whilst he's moved on a bit, he's still not much nearer to a new bike it
    seems.

Simon will have run his bike in by the time Darsy sorts himself out.

Well, I do admit to touching 160kph every so often. ;-)
I think there are, as I know that ViaMichelin has an add on for fixed
radars and so does TomTom. Where they are, I don't know...
IIRC there are reciprocal fine agreements between the Swiss and the
French, so IIWY, I'd be cautious.

I think there's an agreement in principal, which has been around for
years, but no mechanism in place (or planned?) to do so. Certainly
I've been flashed on French Autoroutes at least a couple of times at
~160 or more in the cage. Nothing happened.

Although it was never classed as a recall [1] That is exactly what Suzuki
did when the TLS's cracked on the shock mounting

[1] Suzuki never seem to be able to do the "recall" thing

Comments from a guy on the MV list who's a certified aircraft welder:
    =====================================================================

A butt joint has to be 100% penetration.(Normally with 100% there will
be an equal metal buildup on the back side as the top) The weld must be
uniform,(nice neat evenly spaced beads) either flat or convex the whole
length, no concave is permitted. Our cert plates which were 7" long for
the 1/8 aluminum were then cut into half inch strips and at random
three would be selected, one for x-ray, one for a pull test, (tenstile
strength) and a bend test around a round post (I don't remember the
diameter) Porosity (holes or bubbles in the weld) is not permitted. If
any of the samples failed the weld was no good.

The weld width is normally 3T, (3 times the thickness of the parent
metal) If you want to see a good example of nice aluminum welds look at
your sub frames on the F4 & Brutale...excellent!!! The frames which are
steel are also excellent examples of TIG welding. The Honda CBR1000 &
CBR600 RR Pro link unit rear swingarm also has some very nice welds,
though to check for proper penetration one would need to be able to see
the rear side. That being said, many (probably most) companies require
a welding test or certification for employment. I do not know the
certification requirements for MIG. I don't know what the requirements
are for Suzuki but I would guess they have some sort of standards and
most likely are able to trace it back to one individual (I would think
someone will no doubt be reprimanded or worse...)

That style frame is common for Suzukis, Yamahas, Hondas, Kawasakis and
a few others not named. It's pretty clear there was no beveling on
those castings and the weld was just piled up on the surface.(very
little strength in a pile of surface weld) Aluminum is one of the
easiest metals to get a nice looking surface weld with little or no
    penetration.

Not knowing the thickness of the casings that are being welded, but
guessing they may be three sixteenths to a quarter inch thick,(or
more?) for proper penetration (100% is required for butt joints) on
metals that thick it would be recommended to bevel both surfaces to be
welded and some preheating would be best. (If this were not done it
could have been the cause or contributed to it) For TIG welding
something that thick it may even require welding at 150-175 Amps [very
hot] a root pass and a cover pass to get proper penetration and buildup.

Many of the factories (I've never scrutinized the GSXR 1000 frame and
the photos are not clear enough for me to see if it was TIG or MIG) use
MIG which is wire feed. This is good for quick mass production and can
be done very nicely by a good welder though I'm not a fan of MIG. At
the first strike of the arc with MIG there is no preheating therefore
it may be lacking in penetration for the first half inch.
