K1200s had a lie down...

.... whilst I was paying for fuel! Another rider in the group I was in
managed to knock it over - quite a lot of cosmetic damage - mirror,
upper, middle and lower fairing panels all grazed or badly scratched.
It's a fair amount of weight to hit the deck.

Am being chased by the other guy's insurance - they said he'd admitted
liability and want me to get it to the garage and they'll take care of
authorising the repairs etc directly with the garage. All good.

I have not (and had not intended to) informed my insurers as had
expected actually the other guy to sort it out privately and really
wanted to be able to avoid the whole "accidents, losses or claims in the
last 5 years" business on applicaton forms for (irrational?) fear of it
    impacting by lovely clean record.

Question: Do I have to inform my insurance company and declare this in
    future?

I just *bet* that goes well into four figures.
Probably best to, if only because if they subsequently find out about it
(and they might, as his insurance claim will be on record somewhere)
they'll try and use non-disclosure to weasel out of a subsequent claim.

I've mentioned Twatty's opening his car door on my K for this year's
premium renewal. No effect on the premium: they've just noted it.
Exactly the same as you: I didn't file a claim with my insco, but just
sent a (modest) bill to Twatty's insco after he refused to cough in a
    private settlement.

    Stupid ****.

I can tell you now, the side fairings are £875 each. I know this cos someone
lobbed the demo bike & the guy told me.....

I'd insist on new panels, not repairs, then cadge the damaged panels
back from the repair shop to keep as spares.

I was thinking along the same lines. Cosmetic damage repair is one of our
mainstays in the car business as more and more cars are being "Cat D"
written off because of the stupidly high cost of replacement panels and it's
getting to be similar in the bike part of the business too.

It wouldn't be "too" bad if the damage was serious, but writing a car off
because it's got a bent bonnet and bumper is getting a bit much. Insoc's are
notorious for not allowing pattern panels to be used and "their" garages
    charge the fucking earth.

Fortunately, we still live in a place where the vehicle owner chooses where
his vehicle is repaired, even though the insco's will try to tell them
    otherwise.

  12. Heh. I just DIY'd it on the K, added a bit for my time and trouble, and
    sent them the bill.

Possibly better: tidy up damaged panels and refit to bike, stash new
panels in loft until trade-in time.

I did that after a flood at home. The assessor came round and we were
eventually quoted some fucking ridiculous figure and told where to go for
carpets, kitchen units and the like.

We went "shopping" and found every single item on the list for around a
quarter the price that the insco's "favoured" suppliers quoted, so I rang
the insco and said I was doing the work myself and would send them a bill
which would be 25% less than their own assessors.

They sent me a cheque without any discussion and I got it before I'd spent a
penny on replacement items. I have to say that it's not common to have good
dealings with insco's as they're the wriggliest fuckers on the planet. If
there's a way out of coughing up, they know it.
