Do any of you ride one of these and if so what do you think of them.

Are they worth a punt from a buying one and then riding it perspective?

    LOLOL Paging Judge

    In short...*don't*

Reliability and build quality are shite. Group opinion is a
ZZR1200/1100, or FJR if your feeling flush. In fact just avoid all
post 1996 beemers and early oilheads.

From the sound of your comments it looks like they are a complete pile of
shit and not worth the money. I am looking for a bike that is quick but not
so sport focused relating to handlebars and wrists. I thought the Beemer
would be a really good buy.

Shame but might have another look at a Triumph Sprint ST

    Cheers

Hehe. One of the regular posters here (Judge) had (has?) one that was
trouble from pretty much day one. Much of his woes seem dealer-related,
mind. I'm sure he'll be along at some point, of course you could JFGFI
    in the meantime...
Well, it might, if you were to find a good 'un but this itself may prove
a task and a half as BMWs "legendary" build quality seems to have gone
    for a burton.

I've had three as loaners when my R1150GS Adventure has been in for
fettling. One was a peach with a superb engine and great brakes, and
the other two were a bit doggy; one had a ropey gearbox and the other
    just didn't ride right.

The good one was a hoot on open A-roads and motorways with oodles of
smooooth acceleration on tap from low revs. Mined ewe, I kept whanging
the limiter as it revs out at something like 8.5k but feels like it'd go
    on pulling to about 12.

Less amusing on twistier stuff where its sheer bulk became apparent. My
ZX12R was vastly more capable down the twisty stuff.
Old or new? The old ones were pretty good (ask Ace) but the new 1050
seems (from all the press coverage) to be vastly better although I've
read that those stylish headlights are pretty pants.

    HTH.

    Peter,
I have had my K1200S for 5,000K and am only just understanding it, have
a VTR1000, '93 K1 and an old Truimph as well. Just completed superbike
school day and left myself and most everyone else very impressed, takes
extra throttle control in the tighter stuff to stop getting pushed
wide, tipping in REAL fast helped too, had little problem keeping with
the true sportsters in the sweepers. Don't think you are getting a
great gear box for city traffic, you are not! but on the track or at
serious speed it all works. Fast touring is an absolute pleasure, I
left a K1200RS for the S which is lighter and easier to punt quickly.
Might be able to sell the VTR now.

go try one, they're not cheap but they are fun, unusual for BMs I
    guess.

    Why? I thought Judge had a K1200RS not a K1200S?

Thanks so much for that. I am pleased you are having fun. I only know one
other person with one and he said it was good. Do you find it comfortable on
the long haul? My CBR does my wrists in touring and that's why I want to
    change.

    Thanks again

He probably only said it was good because he was embarrassed to have
spent so much hard earnt cash on a such a pile of shit.
