Seem to recall someone here asking about a cheap K100LT recently?

  2. Sure it wasn't an 1100?
Ah, Lozzo has just issued a general warning about Cheshire Motorcycle
    Salvage....
Fucking horrible bikes to ride, anyway.

    Thinks .. perhaps it was
I missed that, playing silly beggars are they?

I've only ridden the LT version once and it seemed OK, although my
personal preference has been for the RS version

  4. The LT's comfy enough, but the geometry and suspension sends the thing
out of shape rather easily. The 1100 is *so* much better. Smoother, too
    (balancer shafts, unlike the 100LT)

You sure? I thought only the K75 series had balancer shafts?

You could well be right, I've not had owt to do with the 1100's only the
8v 1000cc's, and being honest I've not had a problem with vibes on any
of the 5 I've had. But then I actually like the vibes on the F650 'cos
it sort of "feels" like a motorbike :)

  7. Hm. I thought all the 100s were balancer shafted. Mind you, the 1100
still buzzes. Where's Timo when you need him.

OK, it's 4.11am in the UK....

Are you sure about the balancer shafts?

The 1100 is more comfortable than the 100 but I put this down to
excessive rubber mounting of footpegs, handlebars and better suspension.
I wouldn't say it was *massively* better though.

Bothering his duvet at that time...

I can't find my Clymer manual at the moment as I've probably put it into
a safe place but according to my illustrated BMW motorcycle buyers
guide, the difference between the K75 and all the others is that the K75
has counterweights on the secondary shaft that drives the clutch whereas
the other models don't. No balance shafts on any model, but that's what
the counterweights were for on the 75.

From my experience the 75 is the smoothest of the lot but 1100s can be
made fairly smooth by very careful balancing. For some oddd reason they
also seem to start vibrating if the exhaust is leaking...

  10. It's a bus, and my knees hit the back of the fairing unless I constantly
shift my bum back in the seat. Oh, and the ABS hasn't worked since I
bought it. The cigarette lighter doesn't work, and I've had to put
electrician's tape across the 'ABS' light 'cos it pisses me off. Other
than that, the thing is bulletproof, comfy and smooth, and if all goes
well, we'll be heading up to Scotland on it in August.

well I've 5 of the things and have heard people say this often, but from
experience I suspect this is an exageration at best.

I know :) .. it gets worse they've all been 8v RS models too!

Although in my defence I am also an Yamaha RD and Kawasaki fan, Suzuki's are
OK, Honda's are dull IMHO [1]

  13. See other posting.... evidently not..... Is it the 1200 that has them,
    then?

    <Googles>

Ah, yes, it is. mea culpa.
It's got a much better fairing - I could never get used to the 100LT
screen. And the suspension on the 1100 is, indeed, better. Best thing is
probably the extra torque of the 1100.

  14. It is that. It's still an ill-handling POS in bends.

I always reckoned my K100RS had more "pull" than my K1100RS low down
(where I tended to use it) but the 1100 won out at higher revs, and with
a pillion the 1100 felt like it was working harder.
The other main difference I found was that the brakes were much better
    on the 1100.

  17. I find the 1100 is more effortless than the 1000. Brakes, yes, much
better. It's still a shame about the lowish top gear.

But the 1100LT is still so much better than the 1000LT, IMHO.

The only LT I've tried apart from an R80 was the K1200LT. I found it too
big, too heavy and too long with a wonderful engine.

SWMBO asked my dealers to lend it to me when mine was in for a service
"as a surprise" and I nearly returned it after the first couple of miles.
I gave it a chance and found it good at speed but in any sort of traffic
the weight was really noticeable in a scary "I can only just hold this
    up" way.

I prefer the 1100 to the 1200. In most ways it is just a better bike. It
doesn't have a balance shaft *as such* but it does have the fairly
    substantial layshaft.
K100/1100 vibes are a lot to do with parts matching. Ride one which has been
blueprinted and balanced and all becomes apparent.

While the 100 may appear to have better reliability in some ways it has it's
own weaknesses. The post K1/K100 8v digital M-tronic and integrated ABS is
better IMHO. Performance is better. The brakes are excellent. Floating
disks. Suspension. Leccy screen, et all. The K1100RS is an underated bike,
big improvement over the K100RS 8v.
