Just how interchangeable are GT380 parts?

Might be a daft question, but there's someone in this month's Classic
Mechanics who advertises an Italian import GT380 less the bits that I
don't need anyway (like seat, rear mudguard etc). Given that mine is a
'79 I was wondering just how easy it is to swap parts over?

Alternatively it might be more sensible to just swap the bodywork over
and flog the one I've got "for parts".

    Any suggestions?

  2. There are a few minor differences, but not many. I flogged the grab rail
off my donor bike to an Italian.

There might be a few differences in the clocks - the Ities got the
glass-sealed clocks before we did, IIRC.

Ay yes! I remember! Our GT380 was 372cc, and the Italian one is slightly
different capacity for some tax reason. So barrels and pistons aren't
    necessarily interchangeable.

    Sounds tempting...
Hmm. The clocks on mine are pretty good, so that wouldn't be too much
    of a problem anyway...
Prolly 350cc as that was a cut-off for one of their 'cheap' taxation
    classes.

Hrmpf. I *really* don't want to spend any time or money on this
bike. Prolly better if I just ride it to Kempton Park instead - any
chance I could share your pitch again?

  4. Sure. John Nutting (another CMCM hack) is disposing of the contents of
his garage on my pitch as well. With three of us there, it'll be less
    than a tenner a head.

Want to stop over at the Chateau on Friday night? We could take the GT
    on the trailer, then.

Yep, why not. Ride the GT to work, then to the Chateau, the _drive_ to
Kempton Park because we'll be worse for wear? :)

    Sounds like a plan.

Just in case the unexpected happens, do you know if there's a train
    station near Kempton Park?

    IRTA 'scare' your pitch.

Having one of Timo's bikes near mine would scare the **** out of me, in
    case it was contagious.

I can see stall holders, half a dozen pitches away, saying to would-be
customers, as they contemplate a copletely inert bike: "I can't
understand it.... It was working perfectly when I took it out of the van
    this morning."
