Two parts of the same story, compare and contrast:

What's interesting is when I happened to be trying to shop at that
supermarket around 6:30 PM. There were no at least seven police cars,
and large sections of the road and car park closed off. Obviously
    something fairly well planned.

So, why is it none of the papers actually say what the operation was
    about?

What concerns me more (apart from the use of "swooped" twice in the
first article) is the difference in supposed facts, i.e. "armed police"
plastered across the first one implying use of firearms and with comment
from a bystander saying that there were guns involved, but with no
    mention of stun-guns.

And then the BBC article dwelling on the use of "tasers" without
actually giving any real detail on what it was all about with no mention
of firearms at all. Not entierly sure why the BBC even bothered.

Can't understand why the police haven't issued a statement given that
the thing was witnessed by members of the public.

Obviously I'm not a police officer, but there a lot more jazzy looking
850R's there than I'd imagine neccesary for a simple "we tazered the
bad guys" scenario... which is what got me wondering.

There's a lovely shot of the car in the local paper that has the caption
"the volkswaqen golf with what appear to be bullet holes in the
windscreen".. I'm begining to suspect sensationalism as it looks like
all the side windows were put through, and the windscreen holes look
more like they were caused by impact.
Maybe they were given a version of a story to publish.
The only thing I can guess is it's part of a larger operation that isn't
over yet. Certainly has me wondering though.

Fucking hell, you'd got JockPlod in Derby?

    Must have been serious.

FWIW, I'll have a punt on this being an arrest of two bods suspected of
being the two who offed the Janitoress in Manc.

    'in the style of'
That's also my pet theory, if it turns out to be the case I suspect it's
being kept quiet because they've not pulled in everyone they want yet.

So like that, but not like that then?

How about looking on your local or area Police website? You can
sometimes get info off there for such things.
