Really? You ought to spend more time with T when she's pissed.

  2. Not particularly. I didn't know he was Scottish when I first heard of
him. He came to national (UK) prominence first, as far as I'm concerned.

  3. He wasn't, unless Surrey was part of Scotland 60 years ago.

    Very true.

I was looking at his website and remembering buying Piece by Piece.
Used to listen to it over and over but haven't for a good 15 years..
but just reading the lyrics I could heard the songs in my head.

    Must get a new copy.

He was pretty good as a yoof, but (AFAIC) he didn't do as well as he
    could've done.

    Back in the 70's

More recently. (He didn't age well)

  8. Scottish father, Scottish name, brought up in and lived in Scotland.
**** me, people claim to be Pastafarian for less reason.

  9. There was something on the website a few months ago about him not being
    well, iirc.

I know someone just like that. Born in Derbyshire as a semi-jock, but
to all intents and purposes a PW in everything except birthplace.

Surprising post of the decade. Given other music related posts I've
seen from you suggest similar(ish) listening tastes to my own. The guy
was a great singer / songwriter. Sad news indeed.

I became a fan after seeing him live in 1982 (I think it was '82) at a
Genesis reunion concert at Milton Keynes Bowl. It was the last time
Peter Gabriel played with Genesis. John Martyn was a support act and
probably the highlight of that show (IMHO) along with Paul Jones and
The Blues Band. That event still sticks out in my memory not least for
being the most unpleasant venue on the planet.

The BBC4 documentary referred to elsewhere in this thread is
    certainly worth a watch.

One of the guys who comes to my local is the opposite. He's a born and bred
PW, right down to the unintelligable accent, but now he insists he's a
    Mancunian Jew.

For some reason I found this very sad too. I spent much of yesterday
    afternoon re-listening to One World[1].

Small Hours is still a great track.

[1] The one and only album of his I have

    <snip stones stuff>

Strange I've never had a problem with it[1]. I mean I don't see how one
field with a stage in it can differ much from another field with a stage
    in it.

The last two gigs I went to there were fine.

[1]Slightly biased I suppose because I did use to live within walking
distance of it, made getting in and out quite easy.

    Good point, well made[1].

    But.

There's nowt wrong with the venue itself IMHO. Getting in and out is
easy as long as you know the right ways to go (ie don't follow the signs)

[1] The roundabouts are fun in a cage thobbut.

Don't get me wrong, from what I remember the event was great (with the
exception of Talk Talk who were utter *shite*). But the crap weather
and general lack of organisation put a downer on it. Total mudbath -
Glastonbury goers would have loved it.

Can't agree with the comments about ease of access either. We were
parked in a field (swamp more like) and it took hours to get out. Cars
stuck in the mud everywhere. Never been to the place since.

    Happy days.

The only JM album I had yesterday was "The Apprentice", which got a
fair few repeats. We actually chose "The Moment", from that album, as
the opening song at our wedding.

It's funny but, as someone who doesn't really buy into the whole
wedding thing, it does bring back some pleasant memories.
