....I kept thinking as a read Sunny's horrible posts about her husband's
tryst with a deer. Did Joe wear a full face? Did he wear a helmet at
all? Why don't people wear helmets, and especially full face? Maybe
Joe's injuries might not have been so bad." Then, this AM, I read this
from another NG. This happened yesterday, May 2nd. OMG!
I've been riding since 1977 and when I hear stories like this and Joe's,
    I question my sanity.

Yep.. sure makes you wonder, sometimes. I got a late start.. late forties..
Been riding a motorcycle for more than twenty years.. Any time I see a
motorcycle "down" . I will always stop.. Sometimes I can be of assistance
and sometimes I would be in the way of those helping.. I always try to find
out "what happened".. A few times, I saw it happen, not often.. In more
times than not, the biker was doing something that was reckless and foolish,
which we ALL are prone to do, if we ride these things.. Or, he wasn't paying
attention and taking care of his business on that machine.. We are all
tempted to "try" our powerful and beautiful performers of technology.. No
matter what protective gear or clothing we wear, we are going to die, if we
unwisely and foolishly don't recognize the proper time and place to "try"
them.. More often than not, the comments at the scene will invaiably be the
"someone" that comments, "that is all those damn things are good for".. In
all my years of riding, I've been "hit" one time.. from the rear and with
both feet on the pavement.. I may get hit, today or the next time I mount
that thing, who knows.. There are those who ride and there are those who
shouldn't .. Many of the "should nots" are the best bike handlers around..
Doesn't matter. all the protective gear available in our hi-tech world will
not save them without the "survival skills" and common sense to recognize
that they are their own worst enemy.. I'm almost seventy years old, but I've
survived all these years and after my birthday in July, I look forward to
many more years of enjoying my motorcycle and the fellowship and brotherhood
of those who enjoy it, as I do..

In my own experience with you, I'd say that your relationship with God might
    be very questionable..

Hmmm... The right to decide whether or not you should wear a helmet was
fought for by TMRA II.. Long and hard... They lobbied.. they talked and they
persuaded our legislators that "no government should dictate to a
responsible adult, whether he should or should not wear a helmet while
riding a motorcycle.. Some of those veterans who protect your "rights" as a
motorcyclist are still around and still carrying on that battle.. Membership
is only $25.00 per year.. You couldn't spend your money more wisely..Whether
or not you wear a helmet is your business.. I ride with many who do not and
I ride with many who wouldn't "leave home without it".. That is a choice
that TMRA II won for YOU.. As well as many other issues which directly
affect all of us, and most don't even realize is taking place.. Your horror
story about all those "friends" with steel plates and plastic jaws, etc..
might cause you to consider the posts that I have done that advocates
"survivor skills".. Sounds like your "friends" could use some of those...

If your hair is long enough, I have seen many ladies wear it in a very
fetching, french braid.. LOL.. if it isn't long enough for that, you might
consider letting it grow.. Otherwise, it would seem that you will forever be
blessed with "helmet hair".. LOL.. Thank goodness, you are free to make the
choice to wear or not to wear a helmet.. I'd never encourage anyone not to
wear one.. I usually carry a helmet with me when traveling.. When the
situation warrants, I put it on.. If the situation does not warrant, I have
the freedom of choice to not wear it.. Hopefully .. I have the wisdom to
decide for myself whether conditions demand the safety of a helmet..
Secondly we should be smart enough to understand that the security of the
helmet is limited and should not assume that we are "protected" from harm by
that helmet, alone.. Those "survival skills" are the most reliable of safety
measures, any rider can possess.. Unless you own the survival skills, no
amount of gear is going to save you from death and/or dismemberment.. Ride
    safe and defensively..

First off, I disagree that a helmet won't make a difference in whether
    you live or die.

Secondly, for anyone that does wear a helmet, be sure to replace your
helmet even if you have a low-speed impact like what she described
above. The foam in the helmets is a one-time-use application. If you
hit it, it's no longer any good and you need to replace the helmet.

Yeah, do what I did and go into a barber and say "flat top, 1 1/2
sides". That should do it for "helmet hair".

I was expressing internal thoughts I had regarding my conceptions of
wearing a helmet prior to relaying a story that blew them away. I'm
sorry if you took it for criticizing Joe as he lay in a hospital.

Send Joe and Sunny an e-mail you hypocritcal son of a bitch.. Your
relationship with God is as phony as your e-mail that said I had molested my
son.. Joe Williams would spit on a sorry, cowardly bastard like you...

Thanks for setting the record straight.. Anything unpleasant that has passed
between us, Sunny .. has done so because of your own treachery.. Not Joe's
... not Brian's and not mine.. Any misfortune suffered by you has been your
own choice and certainly no one else's.. Your response below, to Texdays is
most significant.. Your gratitude to him is remarkable.. You are grateful to
a man who has sent an e-mail that is detestable and untrue, as you have
declared on this newsgroup.. I responded to that e-mail and his reaction was
to go into a tantrum about someone attacking him.. His retaliation was to
"killfile" and from that imaginary shield he has responded to each of my
posts, critical of him with "glad I don't have to put up with the
Walker's".. While he launches another comment about how he destests me and
Brian.. Now since his little sabbatical, after his detestbile exposure, he
comes back on this newsgroup devout and somewhere in that couple of days, he
has become very religious, mentioning God and his spiritual transformation
while he is still crouched behind that imaginary shield.. Your choice of
bosum buddies and dedicated friends are not impressive, Sunny.. Could be
that .. maybe you need to take a closer look.. Damn lady.. One of the most
sincere and honest condolences you have received was mine.. You couldn't
even resist the urge to attempt to slam me when you posted your report of
Joe's accident.. My comments to you, the afternoon of Joe's accident have
not been misconstrued by anyone other than you.. Better take a closer look
    at the company you choose..

    Yeah? Then...

    <putting the brakes on>

    Hmm. I guess that's your's and Joe's problems then. Don't get others
    involved in it.

I must say, as bad as I hated hearing about Joe being in an accident,
the first thought to cross my mind was who the information was coming
from and how you were about to behave. It's come to pass. It doesn't
"eat me up" about anything. It does however seem to consume you. I
feel this might be the reason you have so many problems that you can't
seem to get through without another problem presenting itself. For the
most part, I ignore any and everything about you or your life.

    See ya in Austin!
