Isn't that splitting hairs. Most pensions appear to be absolute shite
compared with the one I (stupidly) left behind a few years ago. Having
said that, at least one of the final salary schemes I've been in in the
past have since not only been closed to new members, but also switched
to a money purchase scheme for existing members.

Ahh, yeah, probably.

Bit of a sore point here at the moment, as Standard Life have decided
that pension scheme members don't qualify for a windfall when they float
on the stock market.

So they can go **** themselves, I'll have a refund of my payments
(member for under 2 years) and blow them on something more interesing.

 

Aye, but it's only about 12 month's worth of payments, which hardly seem
worth bothering about (they were only put in within the last couple of
years), so taking the money and buying a car or bike or something seems
like a reasonably sensible thing to do.

It probably isn't, but I feel like spending it at the moment.

 

Mine's a stakeholder. I did have a final salary pension for a couple of
years, too, but I'd have to go trawling through to see if said employer
was using SL for both schemes..... I probably should do it regardless to
update my addy, having moved 3 times since.

 

Indeed Owen, I know it always feels like a complete downer. Beer and
more beer.
