Jetting requirements for individual air filters

    My 82 XJ1100J Maxim is on the way to becoming a chopper (if I can ever
    locate some 10" shocks), and part of that transformation is the
    removal of the stock air cleaner box. Replacing the air cleaner box
    will be four cone filters. I forget where I saw it, but I figure I'll
    need to rejet my carbs for this mod. Anyone know how much bigger to
    make the jets or what size the jets should be for individual filters,
    once the filters are installed?

    Someone who knows a lot more about carbs than me (kaybearjr) has addressed
    this issue many times... basically, there are some CV carbs that just will
    *never* run right without an airbox. If you value having it run good over
    looking good, keep the stock airbox.

    what happens when the bike is travelling at 80 milkes an hour past the
    filters (which are facing backwards, and between the riders legs)?????????
    doesnt it go lean..

    I'd ride it first. If the carbs have no extenal bowl vents (typical
    CV I think, and nearly all cars ) the pressure drop across the filter
    effects the conditions at the carb throat and the float chamber
    similarly. Plus the main jets primarly come into play at high revs
    and heavy throttle. MOST of my riding is on the idle circuit, cutaway
    and needle
